Summerstown Forest

This trail is lovingly being developed by the community a little more each year. It offers a portable washroom, garbage cans, some bird feeders along the trail, a couple of picnic tables at the parking lot and some benches for resting through out the main loop.

A few things to keep in mind… in the winter the main trail is reserved for winter sports such as cross country skiing. This area is more or less wetlands and a path has been built and developed a bit more each year.

As of writing this review there is still a part of the loop which is not connected during the warm months and is not passable by foot unless weather tall waterproof boots perhaps.

The main trail is otherwise wide, flat-ish footing and is easy to walk with some small hills for a bit more of a workout than level ground.

In the wet months bring waterproof boots in general as there are muddy areas throughout the trail and during mosquito season plan ahead to protect yourself from bites, again… wetlands. Having said all that this is still one of my favourite local trails.

Once you reach the Y of the main loop trail the right side is longer than the left considering where the wet area is located. You may get an 8 km or so hike if you go right all the way to where the large map sign is near the gravel pit looking area and back.

Truly wonderful multi use trails that are maintained by volunteers. Snowshoe and equipment rentals such as snowshoes and fat bikes are available.

Trails A1, A2, and A5 are good for hiking. A4 is OK. A3 is under water, so you can't complete the loop.

Excellent rental prices, no fee for actual use! Volunteer run so I would recommend giving something. Many bring their own equipment. Cross-country trails are suitable for a novice if maybe a bit challenging in certain areas (which can be avoided) for a very first time.skier.

These are great, well maintained trails for a nice ski or snowshoe afternoon. It's a nicely forested area. Other skiers were friendly and pleasant to pass by on the trails, but it's not super busy. Rentals are available for a decent price if you don't have your own equipment. Overall, I highly recommend going skiing here.

Fat bike trails are very technical they did a really great job on the single track trails

Great place to get out of the city and take the family to enjoy the outdoors in any season. Parking can be full in winter, but people do park along the road.

For younger kids, the fun part about Summerstown Forest is the challenge to spot stuffy toys hanging on trees. It motivates them to keep on going and find the next one.
