The Isle of Herons

Amazing park! Kind of tragic that so few Montrealers know about it. We all hear about the Lachine rapids in history class but so few of us have ever visited them.

Excellent place to have a walk to, with kids especially. Clean, well organised and calming, despite the hearing and seeing of the ravenous rapids.

Laurie Durand is the only reviewer who got it right! Laurie, correctly implied that, L'Ile aux Herons/Heron Island is generally inaccessible! One must use privately owned motorised boats to get onto the island. The Island itself is owned by the electrical utility firm, Hydro-Quebec, and it rents properties to a dozen or so families. These renters have maintained there leases for many generations, and aside from utility workers, the renters are the only people who are permitted on the Island.
