We went by bike and left just before 8am, when it was nice and cool. A delightful time of day! The ticket office is located at the start of the valley and opens at 8.30am (we bought our tickets there and paid by card without any surcharge). It’s an easy, short bike ride out of town.

Once you’ve gone past the ticket office, you cycle in the shade between the rocks for about 3 km, slightly uphill but not too sandy. Then you lock got your bike and continue on foot. The walk takes you up to the viewpoint, which is fabulous, and around by the top and then down a huge dune. It’s totally exhilarating! Best of all, we were completely on our own during the whole visit, except for one other guy and a very small group of 2 or 3 sandboarders in the distance. Unlike the Valle de la Luna, we could do it all before it got too hot.

Note that there are no facilities other than toilets there. Nowhere to refill your water bottle.

Another super impressive place to visit. It is open until 8:30pm now. You park shortly after the entrance and you can enjoy watching some sand boarders if you want. You then proceed walking up to the view point and can return to your car via the dunes. Forget comparing with Valle de la Luna, they are both cool. When windy, it is dangerously windy 😅

Out of this world! Beautiful and peaceful place. Don’t lose from perspective it’s the desert. Plan accordingly your hiking, use protection for the sun and bring plenty of water.

Officially the death valley (valle de la muerte) is currently closed.
But of you have a rented car you can still drive there on your own for free.
From the official entrance drive further, park the car and follow the trail up to the view points.

The most spectacular place after Valle de la luna is Valle de la Marte! A pace very close to San Pedro de Atacama, approximately 17 min by bike and 35min walking! The entrance for the park is 3000pes! After arrivi g at the entrance you will still have to walk one hour to get to the view point, if by bike then 30 min and. Stil 15 min walk at the end where the bike can not go! It is a beautiful place to visit! Sunrise from the view point or mirrador is spectacular but you have to start very early!
If there before the park opens at 09:00 then get in and pay while getting out!

The place is indeed like being in a different planet. We had a nice time with my sons climbing over hills. And it's free.

Awesome place. You can freely move around in the valley in contrast to Valle de la Luna. Walking down the giant sand dunes are not to be missed! It is only a half an hour away from San Pedro de Atacama by bicycle. Entrance fee is 3000 CLP.

Drive 3km to the base of the sand dunes. Walk up to the shack at the Mirador, then a long the ridge and then down the dunes and back to your car. Fun times.

Loved this place! The other worldly rock formations, the deep blue early morning sky, the utter silence of being alone in the wild. A lot of moments when I stopped in awe and just started at the raw beauty of it.

Enter bliss! Beautiful landscapes and all the salt tricks you thinking it's ice. Definitely some interesting contrast against the beautiful rock formations. This is a beautiful landscape worth seeing when you're here.

Impressive landscape and rock formations. It is incomprehensible that they left the main entrance locked. Worth a hike.

For just 3000pesos/person you can drive or go with your bike through the Mars valley till the sand dune, where people come down doing sandbord. From there you can walk up to the Mirador in 20minutes uphill. The view from the top is worth the way, bring some water. You can drive in the valley till 18:00 in the afternoon, which makes it a good place to see if you arrive in the afternoon (be adivised that the "moon valley" close at 13:00, unless you book for the entrance on the afternoon)

Must see! Can go by bicycle, but do it at morning or evening, not like we did it in middle of day, but it was still good!
