Wildlife in the Jungle!

The best thing about this house is the location: up on the top of a hill surrounded by jungle.  The hill is steep, and a bit tiring walking and biking up and down, but worth it. The views and wildlife are incredible.

Everyday for a week we were treated to wildlife shows: Howler and Capuchin monkeys daily, and spider monkeys twice.  Multiple sloths, both two-toed and three-toed.  Even with babies!  And baby howler monkeys and baby capuchin monkeys too!  And so many birds: toucans (three types), parrots, owls, etc.  My son logged more than 50 species in a single day.  Two green Macaws even landed in a tree giving us a special view of them.  Agoutis are common, butterflies, insects, frogs, bats, etc.  One night there was a Kinkajou roaming around the house.  Of course spotting wildlife takes some patience and luck, but this is a special place where not much patience or luck is required.

Jungle wildlife was our priority and this nailed that.  But we also enjoyed the location: A short walk to Playa Chiquita, a great beach for swimming and snorkeling (if conditions allow). Also a short bike ride south to Punta Uva and Manzanillo, or north to Puerto Viejo.  Cruiser bikes are fun (but we pushed them up and down the hill).  We drove to Cahuita one day too.
The house itself: It is a work of art.  The wood throughout is beautiful, including the main spiral staircase from the main floor to the second floor.  And the third floor lookout is super fun.  We spent most of our time on the second floor balcony watching the wildlife.   We didn't use the main floor much at all- we ate simple breakfasts and packed lunches, and usually went out for dinner (many great places within walking distance).  But the kitchen was well equipped and would be fine for cooking.

A few cautions:
Howler Monkeys can be loud at night.  But that is part of the fun!
The Great Potoo calls at night made us laugh (look them up!)
Mosquitoes were nearly nonexistent when we were there, but might be a problem some times of year.
The bathrooms don't have much privacy, but that didn't bother us at all.  The second-floor toilet is outside with a view!
The hill is a big climb.  Driving requires 4wd.  If on foot- some might not like the hike.

Overall highly recommended if you are interested in jungle wildlife.  We loved it!

Un verdadero lujo.
La casa está enclavada en medio de la selva tropical, por lo que vas a ver muchos animales, tuvimos un perezoso en un árbol frente a nosotros y logramos verlo siempre despierto, moviéndose entre las ramas y comiendo, escuchar monos y ver muchos tucanes, entre otros cientos de insectos.
Casa muy cómoda, con un baño exterior de cuento, que tenés una vista espectacular.
La piscina hermosa, cocina completa (quizás le pondría algún electrodoméstico más cómo licuadora).
Un detalle, no tiene aire acondicionado ninguna parte de la casa, si hay ventiladores pero las camas al tener velos, suelen ser muy calurosas, de todas formas vale la pena ya que es un lugar mágico.
El entorno tranquilo y repleto de biodiversidad.
Cuenta con una parrilla exterior sumamente disfrutable.
Un plus es que está en un lugar súper céntrico, pero super aislado al ser una subida grande (ir con 4x4 obligatoriamente, ya que sino no subís), tiene todas las playas cerca, los restaurantes y supermercados.
Vale la pena vivir la experiencia

Fantástica! La casa es demasiado hermosa y el estar en contacto tan directamente con la naturaleza es una experiencia única.

Que tranquilidad se siente acá. Lo amé demasiado.
