It's perhaps oddly abnormal to rate and write review about a cemetery, but honestly the only reason is I am so grateful it exists that I hope others know about this calm and peaceful place to visit and have a walk.

Just ten minute's tram ride from Prague's train station, the Olsany cemetery is a beautiful and serene island of fresh greenery & shadow within the city.

It is not gloomy in the least. Some tombs are so old that nature has covered them entirely. It feels like walking through a forest when tombs can be seen here and there. Benches can be found scattered, inviting passers-by to enjoy its calming atmosphere.

By far the most beautiful cemetery I have seen. Highly recommended.

This is a beautiful place to visit if you’re after something quirky and unique in Prague. Just a quick 5 minutes walk from Flora station. It’s a huge cemetery with lots of history, old monuments and graves. Very art deco! A must see.

Beautiful place. After nearly a week in Prague, we were running out of things to do. As the wife and I like cemeteries, we decided to pay a visit here. It was a short ride on the Metro, and practically right outside the Metro station. Its huge. We spent about 4 hours wandering around, and it was so peaceful. Its a proper oldy worldy cemetery, with loads of interesting mausoleums, and gravestones to read. Lots of places to sit and eat lunch too. We visited Kafka's grave, and also found Russian and British war graves there too. Highly recommended if you want to escape city centre Prague.

The largest cemetery in Prague.

This is a huge cemetery in the Zizkov area of Prague. The older parts of the cemetery date back to the 1800’s and the crumbling Gothic monuments to the dead remind one of Pere Lachaise in Paris, or any famous Gothic graveyard. In the newer sections of the cemetery the graves are neat and well cared for. The whole graveyard has many large trees that help to make this a peaceful place. In the eastern section of the cemetery are memorials to fallen soldiers of different eras and nationalities. Near this section lies an Orthodox church in the midst of the tombs, which is frequented by Orthodox worshippers.

The cemetery is not a tourist attraction per se, but it is a place for calm and thoughtful reflection. It can be good to walk through it in sunshine, rain, or snow, to see the place in all its hues.

Note that the adjoining Jewish cemetery is closed on Saturdays.

A lovely, almost haunting place, fantastic for (not only) autumn and winter walks. It takes you back in time, and kind of makes you want to write a book. Really large, too, so you can spend a lot of time here if you want to.

This is probably going to sound weird as a review for a cemetery but DAMN how beautiful it is! It is beautiful in every season and the melancholic walk you can take here is something else!

Big, nice, beautiful. Grate place to have a walk almost with no people. Good in all seasons.
But in summer there are some mosquitoes, be careful.

Its origins date back to 1680, when it was used during a plague epidemic, but its definitive valorization is due to Giuseppe II, who with a decree forbade, for hygienic reasons, that the dead were buried around the city churches. divides into 12 cemeteries, also distinguished by religion. In addition to the Hebrew one, which we will discuss later, there is a section for the burial of Orthodox Christians and another for Muslims. There is also the cemetery of Red Army soldiers who fell during the war in Czechoslovakia.
The monumental tombs that are inside it are numerous and of great value, among which those in art nouveau style stand out. Olšany also has two large structures for the celebration of funeral rites.

If you are a Dark soul like me, don't you wait and visit. This cemetery looks wonderfully in every time of the year! There are old, desolated graves, crypts and the atmosphere is just stunning. I like to go there with my camera and take pictures... The older parts are the best... because new cemeteries are boring...

A beautiful, big, but not too big cemetery in the center of Prague. Interesting mix of different monuments, old and new graves. Parking lot and tram station directly in front of it. (Station Flora)

Beautiful cemetery to walk in, the ivy has beautifully covered many tombs. Peaceful, quiet, green.

Funny story: I thought there were a lot of people with the first name Rodina buried here... then I looked up the translation.

Great place to visit at sundown in the winter... and unlike everything in central Prague- it's FREE.

Fantastic place to visit to get away from the annoying crowds. It is a very serene and calm place, you will find beautiful (if somewhat decayed) sculptures and gravestones, memorial for victims of war and plenty of little secret corners you may accidentally stumble upon and find something truly astonishing. This is a working cemetery so be aware that you may run into an actual funeral procession. Take note of the opening hours, the gates will be closed in the evening.

Absolutely enormous.
You must see the old crypts, they are fascinating. If you like photography or creepy stuff, this is the place to be.
You can also see some more recent graves and get an idea of the burial style of Czech people.

This cemetery is beautiful. I visited when there were leaves on the grounds. Seeing all the growth of the plants and the varied headstones, it was a wonderful to walk through. You can see headstones meticulously taken care of, others, overgrown or broken. I never thought I would enjoy a cemetery this much. The pictures speak for themselves.
