Český Krumlov má díky meandrům Vltavy ve svém vlastnictví 23 mostů a osm lávek pro pěší, což jěj řadí - i přes nevelkou rozlohu - k opravdovým českým "mostovým metropolím", jako třeba daleko větší Praha. Most Dr. Edvarda Beneše z roku 1929 je nejen unikátní funkcionalistickou konstrukci, ale i důležitým dopravním uzlem. Průjezd historickým centrem bez něj by byl velice problematický. Bohužel není v dobrém technickém stavu, od roku 2014 má sníženou nosnost a nesmí na něj auta těžší než 6 tun. Jeho životnost je u konce a byla doporučena kompletní rekonstrukce, na což ale chybí peníze. Chodníky po obou stranách mostu jsou od roku 2018 uzavřeny pomocí dřevěných zábran, takže musíte procházet po vozovce, naštěstí tu povětšinou provoz není frekventovaný. Rozhodně odtud pořídíte nejpůsobivější fotky kostela sv. Víta.

Zajímavost: zárodek destrukce si v sobě nese už samotná mostní konstrukce. V době jeho poválečné generálky platil předpis, že v něm musí být umístěny takzvané "šachty stálého zařízení" - což jsou vlastně boxy na uložení trhavin, díky kterým by bylo možno stavbu rychle vyhodit do vzduchu, kdyby nás náhodou ohrožoval nějaký ten imperialistický nepřítel. Benešův most má takové šachty hned tři - a právě těmi boxy do mostu nejvice zatéká.

Thanks to the meanders of the Vltava, Český Krumlov owns 23 bridges and eight footbridges, which ranks it - despite its small size - among the real Czech "bridge metropolises", such as the much larger Prague. The Bridge of Dr. Edvard Beneš from 1929 is not only a unique functionalist construction, but also an important transport hub. Passing through the historic center without it would be very problematic. Unfortunately, it is not in good technical condition, since 2014 it has a reduced load capacity and cars heavier than 6 tons are not allowed to pass. Its service life is over and a complete reconstruction has been recommended, but money is lacking. The sidewalks on both sides of the bridge have been closed by wooden barriers since 2018, so you have to walk on the road, fortunately most of the traffic is not frequented. Interesting fact: the germ of destruction is carried in the bridge structure itself. At the time of its post-WWII general reconstruction, there was a prescription that so-called "permanent equipment shafts" must be located in it - which are actually boxes for storing explosives, thanks to which the bridge could be blown up quickly if we were "threatened by an imperialist enemy". Beneš Bridge has three such shafts - and it is right through these boxes that the water gets into the bridge the most.
