Grat place, very friendly staff. We've been the whole family, all of us took audioguides and we all enjoyed it, and learnt quite a lot. Very well organised, also for kids. Definitely worth a visit!

A hidden gem! Staff was super nice, and while a salt museum may sound boring it was super fun and accessible for guests of all ages. It is mostly in German, but it’s worth a visit for anyone! also great gift shop

Great collection of salts and very informative in terms of providing history. Also the gift shop was quaint and cute! Defo worth the visit and will surprise you :)

P.S The salt cave model was a little terrifying but it was a moment that made us laugh XD

Salt salt and salt! Amazing small-ish museum. The audio-guide (in English and German) was only €1 and it was quite interesting. The museum shop had so much salt! Also, the posters of Lübeck was only 30 cents! There were also some cool postcards (6 for 50 cents). It was great!

Fascinating history very well presented. The use of the headphone guide is strongly recommended to get the full detail of the museum.

Worth a visit even if you don’t speak German, since many of the exhibits are fairly self-explanatory. The map showing the worldwide distribution of salt from Lüneburg is especially interesting. You learn much about the history, try many things out and have fun.

Very interesting and well displayed. Much more content than anyone would expect. The Sonderausstellungen (Special Exhibits) are also very interesting. The gift shop has some nice crystals (salt and minerals) to buy at very reasonable prices. A worthy visit if you are visiting the beautiful city of Lüneburg.

Limited info in English, not all Displays are covered by the English audio guide. Luckily I could translate for my partner.
Quite informative museum

A facinating exspirience, and a lesson learned about the mineral, that we All know. Here is almost the hole story. Well worth a visit.

Wonderful Experience
I had the opportunity to visit this museum with an English speaking guide and so I found out a lot of interesting things about the region, about the village and about the salt factory. With this visit I realized that this was a very interesting region and I have learned a lot about salt and technical things related with this.

A must see Museum which shows how important salt has been in our lives. It further illustrates how salt mining has contributed to great riches for the city and the region..

Very interesting. I'm glad to have visited. I spent well over two hours there and came away with a completely changed view of salt, both it's historic importance and it's modern usage essential for industrial and even mecidinal use. The museum -- which won an international award for cultural preservation and clarification a number of years ago -- does a good job of clarifying the various methods used over the centuries to extract salt as brine, then boil the latter to leave pure salt.

The sole downside for English speakers will be that the museum is entirely in German. There are no audio guides. If your German is weak, a visit with an English-speaking German would make for a far more meaningful experience.

That said, a highlight was speaking with a man in a small outdoor exhibit who demonstrated the brine evaporation process using wood as fuel and a large lead pan, the only material which could withstand the harsh saline solution, and who further explained the bored-through logs used as pipes which for centuries carried water nearly a mile from a local river mill.

Very cool and informative small museum. The photos and videos are very well explained, even if you don't know German you can understand the history.
