Die beeindruckende gotische Stephani-Kirche steht an der höchsten Stelle Helmstedts und wird deshalb auch Ecclesia in monte genannt.
Die Kanzel stammt aus 1596 und ist ein Kunstwerk der Renaissance.
Genauso beeindruckend ist die Grabkapelle aus dem 17. Jahrhundert mit den steinernen Särgen von der Professorenfamilie von Böckeln.

Sehr wuchtige, dreischiffige, gotische Hallenkirche von 1300, die allerdings einen noch älteren Vorgängerbau von 1141 hatte.
So rein gotische das äußere Erscheinungsbild ist, so vielfältig mixt sich die Ausstattung durch verschiedene Epochen.
Alles in allem ein sehenswertes Stück (Kirchen)Geschichte.

Die Kirche war einfach wunderschön. Drinnen war viel geschmückt und wir waren von der Schönheit geblendet. Die Kirche war ohne Eintritt zugänglich.
