Sandweiler German war cemetery

Place is neat and some visitors brought flowers 💐 and candles. May all unknown soldiers have peace of Christ.🕯 🕯🕯🕯🍀

It is a very peaceful place to reflect about the WW2. Almost no one visits it compared to the American Cemetery.

If you are at the American Cemetery in Luxembourg then go here also it is only down the road not even a mile. This is also a somber place to visit and reflect on some of the consequences of war. This is a consolidated cemetery of German Soldiers from World War Two with battles that were in the Luxembourg and Belgium area. As with many wars there are Soldiers here that are Unknown and these rest in double graves.

This place feels much darker compared to the American War Cemetery and Memorial nearby. It is a poignant reminder of how evil-doers might end up - dead and buried far from home, with a headstone that simply reads "Here lies a German soldier".

In many ways I found this more moving than the nearby American cemetery. It was still stark, still rows of markers, still a place for somber reflection. What it did not have was the bravado of the american cemetery, which,I suppose, goes with being on the wrong side.

As someone who loves to explore cemeteries, the Deutscher Soldaten Friedhof Sandweiler is a wonderful site to visit after touring the American Military Cemetery right next door. It has a darker feel, totally a different experience from the American manicured lawns and bright headstones. Don't miss it.

This cemetery is just down the road from the American military cemetery in Luxemburg, the German one offers the perspective of the other side of the war. Very different from the American one, but still an incredibly powerful place.

A beautiful and sad place and a stark contrast to the American cemetery down the street. Both are must sees for anyone traveling in the area.

2022 war ich zum ersten mal hier. Jetzt 2 Jahre später, habe ich diesen Ort wieder besucht. Ich muss sagen, es ist einer der schönsten und bedrückendsten Soldatenfriedhöfe, die ich bis jetzt besichtigt habe. In einem gemeinsamen Grab liegen 4829 Soldaten. Diese Zahl ist erschreckend, da dass ja nicht die einzige Soldaten auf diesem Friedhof sind.

Der Friedhof ist verglichen mit dem Gedenkfriedhof der Amerikaner abgelegen, dunkel und ungepflegt. Es wird schon beim vergleichen der beiden Parkplätze klar, wer diesen Krieg einst gewonnen hat…
Der Friedhof wirkt durch die schwarzen Grabkreuze und die Lage im Wald sehr bedrückend.
Ich würde unbedingt empfehlen sich beide Friedhöfe an zu sehen.

Sehr ordentlich gepflegt. Unglaublich das hier mehr als 10.000 (!) deutsche Soldaten ihre letzte Ruhe gefunden haben. Schade ist jedoch, das das „Gäste-/ Besucherbuch“ abgeschafft wurde. Dies lag vor 14 Jahren noch aus. Hätten uns gerne wieder eingetragen.

Dans ce cimetière militaire allemand, reposent 10914 soldats la plupart morts durant la bataille des Ardennes (décembre 1944-janvier 1945). Sur les croix sont gravés noms, dates de naissance et de décès. Encore une fois, sont inhumés de nombreux soldats très jeunes 17, 18, 19 ans....

Ich war heute hier gewesen, um meinen Urgroßvater zu besuchen.
Er ist im Jahre 1944 durch eine Kugel erschossen worden und verweilt nun seit einigen Jahrzehnten in einem Gemeinschaftsgrab.

Mir gefällt das Gelände sehr gut, da es etwas abgelegen ist.
Es ist angenehm, in Ruhe noch einmal mit den Hinterbliebenen den Vogelgesang zu genießen.

Ruhet in Frieden und dass sich ein solches Ereignis nicht mehr wiederholt.

Classico cimitero militare Tedesco, ben curato. Vale una visita, molto vicino al più famoso cimitero Americano.

A seulement quelques pas du cimetière américain, il contraste beaucoup avec ce dernier. Sobre, simple, calme et très peu de visiteurs. Une cimetière de mémoire pour ne pas oublier. A voir absolument aussi si vous êtes dans la région.

Mooie begraafplaats zeker de moeite waard om te bezoeken. Wel spijtig dat ze een graf moeten delen met 4 soldaten.
