Stunning collection of relics and treasures hidden underneath the cathedral!

The entrance was located on the north side of the cathedral (the side of the cathedral facing the train station) and was easily accessible. I purchased the combined ticket for 6€ - for the Treasury and for the Tower - and after leaving my backpack in the locker room I dove into exploring the treasure rooms. The medieval vaulted rooms beneath the cathedral are hiding the largest and probably the most complex collection of art, relics and liturgical objects in the country.

Somewhat the orientation in the treasury was not easy/clear to me, however I visited (not in following order) tree different sections that were worth to see - one containing the chalices, insignias, monstrances, crosses, relics and jewelry, other displaying statues and liturgical vestments (clothes), and finally a room which contained the wooden sarcophagus the golden Shrine of the Three Kings (the actuals Shrine is displayed inside the cathedral) and some manuscripts. It is a truly spectacular collection and surprisingly some of the objects are used in religious ceremonies until today.

I spent at least an hour examining some of the objects as the lighting was perfect and explanation was provided to nearly all items both in English and German language. It was not busy (certainly not compared to the cathedral) on Saturday afternoon. Toilets were available inside and were very clean. The treasury is wheel-chair accessible and has its own elevator. Paid by card. Visited in August 2022.

We went on a Monday around 2 pm and it wasn't too busy. The staff were very nice and the tickets were quite cheap. We bought tickets for both the treasurey and the viewpoint up the cathedral. The treasurey has so many beautiful items and has passages in both German and English. There's so many items ranging from amulets to clothing to coins. The viewpoint was much more busy but because we bought tickets at the treasurey for it we didn't wait as long. The staircase is very narrow and 6 beware. The view from the top is beautiful and worth the long trip up.

The museum has 6 exhibition rooms that wouldn't take you longer than an hour to explore. Entrance is on the side of the cathedral. The collections are beautiful and invaluable. Worths th entrance fee.

It's inside the Cologne Cathedral. It's beautiful. The Cologne Cathedral Treasury is the biggest and perhaps the richest in Germany. Originally developed as a collection of relics; in the Middle Ages the relics were seen as the real treasure, the costliness and artistic value of their settings being of secondary importance.
Practically all the objects on display are still in ecclesiastical use.

Stunning collection of church artifacts, displayed in a beautiful modern space. Lots of stairs, although there's also a lift.

Tip: there's a combo ticket for the Treasury and the tower climb that's well worth it.

Most people skip this place, because it is not free. But I recommend visiting here, after looking around Cologne Cathedral.

You can see many holy grails, clothes, relics of saints (including 3 kings from the east) and other things.
They are so luxurious that you can see how powerful religion was at the time.

I give a few 5 stars as I think perfection is a goal, not a real state of being, but this place deserves it. Here I lost my wallet as a tourist and a week laterthey found it and sent me back for free and with everything in it. Things like this nowadays give en extra value to a touristic experience and in this my unlucky event became instead a good memory to pass on with my review.

The Treasury of Cathedral is located on the north side of the cathedral and harbours large parts of the Cologne cathedral’s treasure. It shows Christian art from the 4th to the 20th century. The cathedral treasury was inaugurated on October 21, 2000. Initially, it was heavily criticized as many felt that the cube surrounded by dark bronze plates was a foreign body in front of the Gothic north facade of the cathedral. The treasury is underground in medieval vaulted rooms. It has six rooms on three floors. It leads down to the Roman city wall and a Roman sewer and shows paraphernalia of the Catholic liturgy as well as reliquaries and crosses. Some of these objects are occasionally used in the liturgy, such as the ceremonial monstrance, which is carried in the Corpus Christi procession, a large emerald cross, which is used on All Saints' Day, and the baroque shrine of St. Engelbert, on his day of remembrance 7th November.
