Burgruine Hohenburg

Enjoyed walking around this castle ruin. There were a lot of stairs but worth it for the amazing views of the village. We also combined the day with the Schlossberghöhlen right next door. Go on a dry day to avoid any slips on the wet rock. Would recommend for anyone visiting in the area to do both.

Free parking, free tour of the ruins, and a fairly large area to see. The views of the city are amazing! We really enjoyed our time here and ended up down by the caves and took that tour as well. Great day!

Great spread out ruined castle at the top of the hill surrounded by the town of Homburg! It can be a bit of a laberynth if you try to walk all around it. Great views from the top as well! Some parts were fenced off but you could still walk around nearly everywhere. Really liked it!

Best place to enjoy a 360 view of Homburg. Nice hike with rewarding view.

The Hohenburg, also called Homburg Castle or Fortress Hohenburg, is a ruined castle located Homburg in the Saarpfalz district in Saarland, Germany. It stands atop the 325 metres (1,066 ft)-high Schlossberg above the Schlossberg Caves (Schlossberghöhlen).
In the 12th century the castle was the seat of the counts of Homburg. In 1330 the received city rights (Stadtrechte) for their village at the foot of Schlossberg from the Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian. After the death of the last Count of Homburg in 1449 castle and city fell to the counts of Nassau-Saarbrücken. They rebuilt the castle in the second half of the 16th century into a renaissance palace, and then to a fortress.
In the 1600s King Louis XIV of France and his master builder Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban expanded the fort and fortified the city. The basic structure of Homburg's old town dates back to this time. The fortifications were first demolished in 1697, and finally in 1714 when they served as a quarry for the construction of Karlsberg Castle. From 1981 the ruins were excavated and partially restored.

You can get the Aerial view of the city.... Also there is a cave you can visit. But need to book to get the guide. Without advance booking, visiting to Cave is not possible.

The views were great and learned a bit about German history.

Bardzo piękne widoki . Ruiny zamku pobudzają wyobraźnię a ich niesamowity kolor skał które zostały wykorzystane do budowy nadają im niesamowity efekt ...można posiedzieć na ławeczce, można pospacerować ,wspaniałe wrażenie sprawiają schody po których kiedyś stąpali królowie a dziś MY ... osoba na wózku inwalidzkim nie wejdzie niestety na sam szczyt ale wokół można popodziwiać pewne zachowane elementy oraz widoki ...można zjeść w hotelowej restauracji niestety wejście do groty jest możliwe na godzinę przez zamknięciem, wiec nie udało nam sie zdarzyć zejść po 140 stopniach na czas ...Są również aplikacje do Smartfonów i odsłuchanie historii każdego fragmentu zamczyska 😊😉😊 dojazd autem na samą górę i nawet spory parking bezpłatny...🥰😍🥰

Anfang Mai besuchten wir die Vauban-Festung Homburg auf dem Schlossberg hoch über der Stadt Homburg.
Von der Festung ist, bis auf einige Grundmauern, Treppen und Fragmente, nicht mehr viel übrig, aber das riesige, jederzeit frei zugängliche und somit kostenlose Gelände lässt erahnen, wie imposant die Festungsanlage einmal gewesen ist.
Am Parkplatz, gibt es eine Infotafel mit einem Übersichtsplan und dem Hinweis per App, einen audiogeführten, 700 Meter langen Rundgang über den Schlossberg absolvieren zu können - auch in Gebärdensprache. Dazu gibt es auf dem Gelände an allen wichtigen Stationen weitere Hinweistafeln mit kurzen Erklärungen. Wir hatten allerdings das Glück, ganz zufällig auf einen sehr sympathischen und fachkundigen Führer zu treffen, der uns quasi eine Privatführung bescherte. Die Führung hat pro Person 6 Euro gekostet, war ihr Geld aber allemal wert, da wir sehr viel interessantes erfahren haben, was uns sonst entgangen wäre. Dafür nochmals vielen Dank an unseren kompetenten Guide 😊
Vom Schlossberg hat man eine tolle Aussicht auf die Umgebung. Das Gelände gleicht einem Abenteuerspielplatz und bietet die Möglichkeit für ausgedehnte Wanderungen.

Man glaubt gar nicht, daß hier dereinst eine Festung das Land weit umher beherrschte und überragte! Die Aussicht auf den Überresten und der Spaziergang im Wald an den Hängen war spannend!

Tolle Burg-Ruine in Homburg. Von der Stadt Homburg aus gut mit dem Auto und auch gut zu Fuß zu erreichen. Der Weg ist gut an den Hauptstraße ausgeschildert. Alle Stellungen der Festung sind gut zu Fuß zu erreichen und alles ist mit Info-Tafeln gut beschrieben. Ein schönes Stück saarländischer Geschichte. Tolle Fernsicht bei schönem Wetter. Ideal um dort einen Nachmittag mit der Familie zu verbringen. Sehr empfehlenswert.
