Die heutige Steinmauer ist ein Relikt aus dem 19. Jahrhundert. Zu dieser Zeit kam es zu einer Renaissance des Steinabbaus im vorderen Odenwald. Erste Steinbrüche gab es in der Gegend bereits vor Christi.
