Guango Lodge

A beautiful place to see flowers, hummingbirds and enjoy great food!

We stayed at Guango Lodge for two nights while on a birding tour. There were hummingbird feeders scattered strategically all around the lodge and some good trails to explore for birds, plants and great scenery.
The food was delicious! It was what I would describe as homemade Ecuadorian comfort food, with lots of soups and traditional meals that make you feel at home. Coffee, tea and crackers were also available throughout the day if you needed anything.

A couple things to note, when it rains the trails can be a little slippery and muddy, so plan to travel a little slower. They also appear to be expanding and constructing more bird blinds and covered shelters so a couple areas are blocked off for construction.

Other than that, the beds were comfortable, the rooms were clean, the wifi was fast and there were lots of outlets to charge our busy cameras.

This was a lovely place to stay and I will definitely be back on my next visit!

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch and delightful walk here while birding in the mountains. I was really impressed with the food and the service. Although we didn't see torrant ducks we saw a couple dozen other beautiful birds in just one hour. Gorgeous hummingbirds and an unusual fasciated tiger-heron high in a tree really made my day. I'd go back in a heartbeat!

Check out the new suites that will be ready in January 2024! Great view of the river that the torrent duck loves.

I really enjoyed my day trip to the lodge. I scheduled ahead of time to have lunch and it made the trip that much better. There were lots of trails around the lodge that we hiked in the morning and the afternoon. I will definitely be coming back next time I have friends or family visiting me in Quito.

Beautiful place surrounded by nature. There's many many hummingbirds at sight. They offer fishing, night expeditions, different walking paths. The food is really good. The staff is super nice and attentive. The rooms are cozy and even thought the environment is cold, they offer you warm water bags to sleep. There's a beautiful waterfall close by and they offer guidance in every activity.

An excellent ecotourism spot. Guango is probably not for the casual tourist but if you're here for the birds or just to get away and be immersed in nature this is a great spot. The owner is warm and kind and the food is fantastic (as is the birding).

Didn't stay here, just visited for the hummingbirds. Also took a hike to a nearby waterfall. Out was all a wonderful experience. Of you are a bird watcher, it is a stop with taking.

Just stopped here for two three-hour visits over two days, did not stay overnight or eat a meal. this place is a must-go if you're in Papallacta and like birds. You can get incredibly close to the hummingbirds, making for great photography opportunities. The trails are beautiful too, and harbor some nice bird life. Guango is one of the best places to see torrent ducks, and we were lucky enough to see a pair on the river.

Fantastic location!! The lodge was so homey feeling and the food was amazing!! The host made you feel like she was welcoming you I to her home. Would love to visit again!!

Peaceful Place with adorable food. Found torrent duck and guan on the great trails around the lodge, the next day with gabriel the guide so much more, which i never realised by myself. Fresh up there but they do everything to make you feel comfortable, a must for Friends of Kolibris.

My dear friend Diego tooks us here to show us the abondence of hummingbirds, different colours, shapes, sizes, and species. I was overwhelmed by how close I could get to these magnificent birds. They have great staff to help you, and the coffee was simply superb. I can spend my entire life at this lodge, drinking a cup of coffee while I watch the hummingbirds wiz by.

Beautiful lodge. Great place to stop or stay. Amazing food, trails, and hospitality. Birding can be tough in the trails, but was worthit.

Absolutely, positively, magical. We saw all the birds and hiked for hours. It was stunning. The river, the nature, everything. Wow!

Great atmosphere, friendly people and incredibly tasty food. Not counting the amazing diversity in the area.
