Onda Hostel

great spot for a solo traveler or a couple. Felt very safe, and is a very relaxed place with the beach extremely close (30 second walk). Also, traveling to Montanita or Olon (about 30-45 min away depending on time of day) for the day is very easy. It’s one road so you can catch a bus for a little over a dollar or take a taxi which is a little more expensive. You can also take your surfboard on the bus if you have one 👍. Rooms have AC and are clean, and the people that run the place are very welcoming as well as the workers. Easy to make friends but also do your thing at the same time.

I had a brilliant time here... and I didn't even do any surfing! The people make the place. The manager seems to have a knack for choosing awesome volunteers to help run the hostel. The result is a really wonderful atmosphere, social but not rowdy and everyone very chill. I slept well here too - must have been the sound of the ocean at night. Also, breakfast is great. There's three options, however I quickly determined that the banana pancakes were unbeatable. Pizza night every Wednesday a winner... I'm definitely coming back.

Wonderful and magical place where you can stay for a while. Here you can find friends / family and have an amazing time. Awesome surf spot close to the hostel, delicious breakfast, comfy rooms and much more! Can't describe in words how amazing this place ist. Thank you for everything!

We stayed over a week in onda hostel and had a wonderful time! We could have stayed so much longer, but we had to move on.
It is the best hostel I have stayed at so far.
Its clean and the kitchen is very good.
Directly next to the Beach and a good Place to Go Surf and explore the coast.
We Met so many nice people over there!
Also the breakfast ist Perfect!
Would highly recommend and definitely stay there again.

Great hostel, chill atmosphere and nice pool. The kitchen is also well equipped. I spent a week here and many are also staying for longer than the usual 3/4 days.

This is a wonderful hostel. It's in a small uncrowded town on the beach. Matt and Maribel are great hosts, who really go above and beyond to ensure every guest enjoys their stay. They organize family dinners or movie nights and stuff every few days. It's a great way to get to know your fellow travelers. The breakfast is as good as you will ever get in a hostel. I stayed for 2.5 weeks and could have happily stayed a lot longer.

First off, the team and staff are AMAZING. Maribel and Matthieu were SO helpful and friendly and welcoming. Also, they have an amazing staff of long term volunteers that bring a ‘family feeling’ to the hostel.

Secondly, the hostel itself is beautiful, perfectly located, and has all of the right elements: great homemade breakfast with multiple choices, daily activities like yoga or movie night or beach bonfires, surfboard rentals, lots of different nooks to hang out in… and so much more!

Also, it’s quiet. It’s not a party place, but more of a relax and good vibes place.

Onda was the best place we have been during our trip! The people, the place and the atmospheer is just amazing. After one day we decided to stay a week longer and we had the best time. Good place to go surfing on a beautiful beach, chill with very nice people and see baby turtles in the morning if you are lucky. Also you can go diving or snorkeling and visit other beaches or montañita.

Maribel and Mathieu are excellent hosts! They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. When my husband needed medical care, they arranged for a cab to take him and then brought him home. When I mentioned seeing a particular fruit in a farmers market, they bought one for me to try. The hostel is clean and well equipped. The views are beautiful, the breakfast is delicious and the atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. The location is fantastic. It is on the beach and within walking ditance to several great restaurants. I look forward to staying there again!!

So grateful we heard about Onda Hostel because it was absolutely perfect for what we were looking for: surfing, beach downtime and meeting people. Beautiful hostel in quaint and quiet Las Tunas, which is a short taxi ride or a 40min beach walk to neighbouring Ayampe. The owners Maribel & Mathieu are lovely, down-to-earth and passionate people that go out of their way to make travellers feel right at home and help guests with their stay and travel plans. The volunteers were also super friendly and helpful. Great place to meet travellers whether over morning coffee or through potlucks, bonfires and movie nights they organize. We visited the coast mainly for surfing, but got so much more out of the experience and would come back in a heartbeat!

Awesome Place! A young Canadian couple has just moved here and opened up this hostel end of 2019. it’s a beautiful, old and renovated house with big porches and great views on the ocean - perfect sunsets. Calm, pretty, family vibe. Breakfast is great. Rooms are cozy and clean - all new mattresses :)
It’s the perfect place to rest and relaxe in calm and peace. You feel right at home

This hostel is what you are looking for, you can directly book for weeks ! The athmosphere is really relax and surfer friendly. There is one surfbreak right in front and others easy to reach around. Amazing breakfeat included, great classes of yoga, very nice kitchen to cook for yourself, nice discret artworks by Tom (a volunteer), etc. Onda is a great place to rest and surf, you also have everything you need super close (fish market, restaurants, grocery, etc.) A place not to be miss, a place to stay for long term to really discover (we spent two weeks there). The owners and the staff are gems. You can't go wrong !

We got caught in Ecuador in March 2020 with no place to stay . Maribel and Matt came to our rescue and went out of their way to pick us up and keep us safe as everything was shutting down because of covid. Wonderful young couple with big hearts 💕 Was a pleasure staying with them!

I was lucky enough to arrive at Onda before it had opened and spend a total of several months there volunteering, so I saw a big part of the early evolution if this amazing place, and got to know it’s owners Mat and Maribel really well.

The hostel itself is super comfy and is really well equipped; the dorms are spacious with nice beds and the essential mosquito nets, the bathrooms are clean and the showers have hot water, the private cabanas are personal, cute and have two small patios with seats and hammocks to lay the day away, and the entire hostel has lots of nice little spots to hang out and enjoy the beautiful weather. And best of all, the kitchen is huge, and becomes a really fun common space to meet other travellers and share chats and card games.

Staying for a while, you notice that guests that arrive at Onda tend to stay a little longer than anticipated, and I think that speaks to how comfortable and fun the hostel is, both for it’s amenities and for the atmosphere. It has a familiar, personal vibe (or onda?) and that’s a credit to the owners Mat and Maribel and the volunteers that they attract to be a part of the team. Once you meet them and the resident dog and cat, Gallito and Tortilla, it becomes pretty hard to leave. Add the beach with it’s warm water and fun waves, and a tasty breakfast everyday, and you have a combination that’s hard to beat.

Oh and make sure you get upstairs or to the beach to watch the sunset! Thanks guys!

So ein schöner Ort, man fühlt sich wie im Paradies! Und dafür ist das hostel mega günstig.
Man braucht 1 min zum Meer und das ist super zum surfen und baden.
Die Leute sind auch mega nett, ein Treffpunkt für Reisende und Surfer, fühlt sich fast an wie eine Familie, weil man direkt mit offenen Armen empfangen wird (:
