Roots and Wings Alternative School

I couldn’t speak highly enough of my experience at Roots and Wings. It is such a special place. The school is on a beautiful beach front property where students can learn outside or at beach when appropriate. The teachers are kind and committed to the students learning. It is also one of the few schools I’ve found, that gives space for each child’s unique way of being and learning in the classroom. Roots and Wings provides a well rounded education that attends to the students academic, artistic, and social/emotional learning. The children are taught how to work with each other and support one others learning, while also learning about how to think independently and creatively. I highly recommend Roots and Wings.

This school has something that is often lacking in modern schools. It is much more important than beautiful classes and desks in rows. I'm talking about good teachers who love and respect each child. Where there is freedom and there are rules that children learn to observe without squeezing their inner freedom, creativity, research spirit.
My son didn't run to any school with such joy (and we have rich experience in various schools traveling).
A small number of children allowed my son to make real friends and communicate with them in English in a month, although his native language is Russian.
We love Roots and Wings. Special thanks for yoga, for surfing, for creativity and crafts every day, for the connection with the world and nature, which is so easily lost during life in a big city.
We will certanly comeback to continue!

My son attended Roots and Wings for a month (and then the Covid quarantine happened) when we lived in Ayampe temporarily. He loved it!! The children and teachers were so warm, welcoming and friendly. He looked forward to going every day, enjoying the activities and learning alongside new friends from all over the world. It was a lovely experience 🤗👍

We love Roots and Wings! It’s such a beautiful space por kids to learn, it’s save, kind and empowering for them to feel comfortable and able to learn. It’s kids center so they learn according to their interest and it’s amazing to see the results!

I had the pleasure of spending the last year working at Roots and Wings Ayampe and I have nothing but positive feedback to offer. My time shared with everyone in the school and village community was very special. I witnessed with the small class sizes and focus on each child’s individual need it helped pave the way for each student to feel empowered and hold an equal voice and truly be able to be the leader of their own learning. With the approach of not forcing children and offering support to facilitate them diving deep into their own special interests this really created a safe space where students really came out of their shells and were able to grow in ways I have not acknowledged in traditional settings.

I loved that at the start and end of each day the whole school shared time together and that children of many ages and stages of their development were able to connect and support one another. I also adored that we honoured nature and made sure we were regularly outside conducting several weekly activities at the beach, forest and garden.

As an Educator this environment was truly a blessing to be a part of as Roots and Wings was an important occasion that all of its members all cherished and looked forward to each day.

Tuvimos la fortuna de hacer parte de Roots and Wings, y creo que es una gran alternativa para las personas que vivimos en esta zona y queremos un aprendizaje libre y con respeto para nuestros niños, tienen la gran ventaja de enseñanza en Inglés, creo que es el único lugar en toda la península con esta gran opción.
