Monasterio de Santa María y San Vicente el Real - The Monastery of Santa María and San Vicente el Real is a cloistered monastery of the nuns of the Cistercian Order that is located outside the city walls of Segovia, in the autonomous community of Castilla y León, in Spain, on the banks of the River Eresma , in a landscape of great beauty, in steep slope which conditions a marked difference of levels between the different monastic dependencies.

Of uncertain origins immersed in the legend, its affiliation to the Cistercian Order in the year 1156 has no other support than the inscription that runs through the temple as a frieze, under the lines of the windows and that, renewed in 1676, no doubt it reproduces another previous one, probably of the last decades of the XV century.

The monastic set is today the result of at least three constructive stages:

- Of the first late-Romanesque factory only the apse of the primitive church and part of the nave is conserved.

- The second construction stage takes place in the late Middle Ages, extending until the sixteenth century. It is the fifteenth century the most important period of renewal of the monastic group, which affected at least the church, the cloister and convent buildings.

- The third stage corresponds to the reconstruction that begins after the fires of the second decade of the 17th century, in which the intervention of Pedro de Brizuela is fundamental.

From the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries the performances in the monastery have not stopped, until reaching the current image of the whole, the result of the superposition of different factories throughout the life of the monastery.

At present the monastery is inhabited by Cistercian cloistered nuns who live from their garden and from the sale of flowers.

Preciosas vistas.
