Excellent fortress turned museum right on the maritime walk in A Coruña! Beautiful views once you reach the top. There are very interesting artifacts inside as well (including an old viking ship). Don't miss the area where the water fills up with the tide. We were told it was once used as a torture chamber for prisoners.

Entrance is €2 per person so it would be worth it even if it were empty walls. But it's not just empty walls, it's an archeology museum with quite a few things to see and the views are really nice. If you're here, don't think about it, just go in.

Recommendation to management: all the writings are in Galician and Spanish only. It would be great to have them in English as well so that us international visitors can learn about your history too.

A short walk from the lovely cruise terminal, this castle also doubles up as an archaeological museum and houses a lot of military and other artifacts unearthed from the nearby area.

The castle is a good wander and one can go to the top ramparts to enjoy a good view of the surrounding areas.

We had a super quiet visit on a Wednesday afternoon (the entry was free on the day, but it’s usually 2 euros). We had enough time to explore every little corner of the castle, it was a very interesting experience. Notes inside are not written in English but you can get a guidebook in English at the entrance.

Historical Castle from the late 16th and early 17th centuries. it closed the entrance to the port of Coruña. Very well preserved, it is the seat of the Archaeological Museum.

Its exhibition ranges from the castro culture, the period of Roman domination, and historical evolution up to the 19th century.

From the walkway you have a unique point of view of the entrance to the port and the city. Recommended to visit and take a good photo of the city and the scenic beautiful port..

Absolutely brilliant historic attraction and a bargain (2 euros for an adult and 1 euro for a child). A very well preserved 16th century fortress with artifacts and exhibits dating back to the Roman era, if you are interested in history its well worth a visit. There is very little signage in English but that is in no way an issue (and entirely to be expected given that if is a Spanish museum), as everything is intuitively set out so that anyone can enjoy a visit.

We visited on a cruise and only had a short walk (15 mins max, with toddler and baby in buggy) to get there. It's easy to find as well - the cruise ship will dock facing the castle, and you simply exit the terminal building, turn right, and follow the harbour until you reach it.

Nice castle. At the end of the 16th century, Felipe II had San Antón Castle built on a small, rocky island, as a fortress for defending A Coruña port.
As a result of successive restoration projects, it took on its current appearance at the end of the 18th century. It was also a prison until the middle of the 20th century. Since 1968 it has housed the municipal Archaeology and History Museum.

Awesome showcase of Spanish history during the "conquistador era". I even found some weapons from the Philippines that they took all the way there. Its surprising to know they preserved such items. I felt deep connection of our histories after seeing them.
