Just such a lovely place to stay, in summer it will be so cool as it is mainly under the earth and in winter there is a cosy fireplace. Can sleep 10, but it was €32 for two people, so very reasonable. Fully functioning kitchen, two bathrooms, washing machine, outdoor bbq, great wifi and tv. Good location, short walk to heart of town & very clean. The host was super welcoming!

A great way to see what life would have been like in a cave house in times gone bye. The guide was very pleasant and informative, we were the first visitors of the day so she let us open the wooden door to the cave house with a very big key, after initially explaining everything about cave life she then spent time with us answering any questions we had before we continued on to the film show which explained all about how the caves are constructed.
We then had lots of time to wander around all the rooms at our leisure which was fantastic .
A place you must visit if you are in Guadix .

Another unexpected stop. In the top of the town there is this small village where a few people still live in the Caves. The museum is very very interesting and is possible to visit a few houses where people still live. There is also a mirador. This is one of those places which can only be enjoyed in reality and its magic can't be captured in a picture.

Quite cool how they build the homes into the mountains... no need for air conditioning... constant 20 degrees all year round

This is a great place to learn about the cave homes and get a feel for what it was like to live in one of these homes in the early 1900's. The museum docent/guide was excellent giving the tour in both Spanish and English. Gifts made by a local artist are on sale in the gift area. We were so inspired we rented a home in the area to stay in for the night!

I am writing this review because I couldn't find much information online about visiting Guadix. We were driving in the area and this place looked very interesting so we decided to stop by an we were not disappointed. This is such an interesting little village and definitely worth the stop! While there we visited the museum (more on that soon), the "mirador" lookout and visited the Cueva de Jose cave home directly beneath the lookout.

We parked and headed for the Mirador, we were instantly greeted by a nice old man who invited us into his home (no charge, but we did tip a couple Euros). The overlook was a great way to get a view of the cave village with all the little chimney's sticking out of the ground. I've never seen anything like it. We went into the Cueva de Jose and got a good look at what these cave homes are like today. Very interesting.

Now about the museum. For 2 Euros the museum is DEFINITELY worth it. What a bargain. There is a 10 minutes informative video (in English or Spanish) about the history of the Guadix caves, and also caves throughout the world. The museum has touchscreen pads where you can read all about the caves and how they were built, and also has information about other caves in the world (like the video). They are very interesting and well done. The museum has tons of artifacts and information about what cave life was/is like. I was the only person in the museum. I even got a private tour and more information from the lady working there. It was so interesting!

I HIGHLY recommend going to this museum and checking out the overlook and other nearby things. Definitely worth it!
