We have seen our dream property at most unfortunate timing-we could not fly back to Spain to complete at the time due to family circumstances.
Pablo had orchestrated the whole purchase for us-we gave him Power of attorney from UK (he also sent very detailed instructions to our UK notary so all was in order for Spanish notary first time) and he obtained our NIE numbers and everything else necessary for us to buy the house.
He is very reliable and communicative, walking you through every step so you feel comfortable and safe.

I was introduced to Pablo Contreras through the property agent I was working with to buy a house in the Granada region of Spain. As a nervous Brit, with poor Spanish skills, buying in Spain for the first time, I needed the comfort of a Spanish lawyer, who knows the ground, who speaks excellent English.......and offers a service at a competitive price. Pablo was/is exactly that person.

People will tell you that you do not need a lawyer for property transactions, and technically that is true, but Pablo offered me his services to see the purchase transaction safely through and also a comfort blanket to help me understand all of the financial commitments (some that you might not think of) and the ongoing tax position of buying a second home in Spain, including the rather confusing situation with IHT.

Buying property in Spain isn't simple, nothing like in the UK and the process involves numerous entities that you would not have imagined so I also had Pablo act as Power of Attorney, which was essential given the prevailing COVID travel restrictions and this allowed him to set up utilities, bank accounts and NIE. By doing this I avoided having to set up time hungry appointments at the Spanish Consulate in the UK.

Given all of the elements I had Pablo to help me with, including a Spanish Will, the total fee was still inside what an "English lawyer in Spain" would charge for a basic property purchase.

All in all, I was very pleased with how it went and would recommend Rovides Abogados to anyone thinking of buying in southern Spain, especially if, like me, your Spanish is short of the mark and you want to do as much as you can remotely......you'll be in very safe hands!
