Castillo de Jumilla

Well worth a visit. Climbing up is doable, unless one has limited mobility. All information at the exposition inside the tower is in English and Spanish. A mini history lesson. I really enjoyed the visit. And the views are amazing. The entry is free.

"The fortress of Jumilla plays a key role in the historical development of the area. Throughout history it has occupied a vital strategic position at the crossroads of routes between the Vinalopó valley, the plains of La Mancha, the area of Valencia and the valley of the River Segura. The first known settlement on what is known as the castle hill dates back to the Bronze Age approximately 3,500 years ago. Later, during the Iron Age, the Iberian built a large fortified "Oppidum", and the remains of some of the walls, consisting of large "adobe" mudbricks, can still be seen. Later still, the Romans fortified the entire hill by building part of the wall which stands today, as well as various homes and water tanks dug into the rock: some of the "opus signinum" concrete which lined these tanks is still in place. In the 11th century the Moors built an Islamic "hisn" in the form of a rectangular "alcázar"
(fortress and palace) measuring 11 by 25 metres. Later, in the mid-15th century, the first Marquess of Villena, Juan Fernández Pacheco, built the keep and remodelled the whole structure.

In the 19th century the castle was used as a prison and it was not until the late 20th century and the first years of the 21 st that it took on the appearance and characteristics we see today: a keep and a first perimeter wall of approximately 130 metres, boasting four towers and containing two water storage tanks. These structures are then surrounded by a second wall, which includes the former "alcázar" and old town area."

Got a rare evening tour of the castle and had dinner in its shadow as part of a work wine buying trip. What an experience!

Great visit but not for the faint hearted. I couldn't go the whole way up into the castle but the rest of the family loved it

Wonderful place

Hoy domingo y día de la madre hemos visitado el castillo de Jumilla. Un castillo pequeñito en el que se tendrían que haber esmerado más en su rehabilitación pero que merece la pena visitar y más si se hace con nuestra guía de hoy ana que nos ilustró muy bien sobre la historia del monumento y de toda la comarca. Las vistas de Jumilla y de todo el altiplano desde el castillo son espectaculares

Castillo restaurado y rehabilitado para su visita que alberga diferentes salas expositivas permanentes y temporales. Se pueden visitar sus instalaciones y exposiciones, admirar las vistas desde la terraza-mirador, etc.

Piękne miejsce. Zamek jest odrestaurowany i można go zwiedzać. Normalny bilet kosztuje 2 euro, a ulgowy 1. Z góry piękny widok na okolicę.

Entrada en castillo tiene precio 1€.
Puede subir con coche o andando. Es dos absolutamente distintos caminos, con distintas vistas
Castillo pequeño,pero muy bien cuidado y bien arreglado. Claro, cuando subes arriba, vistas muy bonitas.
Recomiendo mucho.

Castillo de Jumilla.
El castillo, tal y como lo conocemos ahora, fue mandado construir en 1.461 por el Marqués de Villena, aunque el cerro sobre el que se levanta ha estado habitado desde la prehistoria, habiendo sido ya fortificado en la Época del Bronce y del Hierro, y posteriormente por romanos y musulmanes.
La Torre del Homenaje es auténticamente espectacular, estando la puerta de entrada a la misma en una posición elevada (segunda planta), accediendose a la misma mediante un voladizo que parte desde el adarve de la muralla.
La Torre, con una planta trilobulada, de una gran superficie, alberga amplios salones y se eleva cinco niveles desde su planta más baja (mazmorra), hasta la más elevada (terraza de armas).

Visitar el Castillo de Jumilla fue una experiencia verdaderamente inolvidable. Desde las majestuosas murallas hasta las impresionantes vistas panorámicas de la ciudad, este castillo histórico cautivó todos mis sentidos. Me quedé fascinado por la riqueza de su historia y la belleza de su arquitectura medieval. El personal fue excepcionalmente amable y conocedor, brindando una visita guiada informativa y emocionante. Recomiendo encarecidamente explorar este tesoro cultural para sumergirse en el encanto y la grandeza del pasado de Jumilla. ¡Una experiencia que no te puedes perder!

Un bonito lugar donde ver Jumilla y alrededores desde lo alto, se puede entrar al castillo por 1€ los findes, de 10-14h.
