Wherever you are, there you are. I haven't been to Dave's "Rock & Roll Pizza La Portela" yet but I plan to get there one day. I just know that if Dave and his wife are there, they're doing it right. Years ago I would make regular stops at his R&R Pizza in the valley on Topanga on my way home to Thousand Oaks. Then he moved it to Moorpark California, much closer to home, and he created a legendary spot still revered and sadly missed in these parts. Dave "Veggie" Viera is the real deal. A super nice guy and a very talented entrepreneur. He makes a plan and keeps to it.
I really look forward to traveling to La Portela someday soon grabbing a slice and catching up with him.
He is seriously missed here in California, Conejo Valley Days and all the local music festivals are just not the same without he and his family's presence. I can only think
the people of La Portela are grateful he chose that little corner of Spain to call his home and spread his love of pizza.
California's loss is La Portela's gain.
Miss you Dave, be well. See you soon.

I have been to a couple of their locations around the world and every time it surprises me how delicious and consistent the pizza is! Highly recommend it!

This establishment serves pizza and salads. They also have gelato which is refreshing after walking for hours. The owners are super nice and friendly. Stopped here on my way to Vega de Valcarce while on my Camino. They have good food and great music (classic soft rock n roll). One of the owners is from California and the other from Denmark.

Great food.
Great host.
Plus wonderful dog Oreo.
Vegan friendly.

What an amazing stay. David and Oreo were wonderful hosts. Staying here was a breathe of fresh air on the camino. Great food, both a delicious salad and amazing home made pizza. The warm atmosphere of this place immediately made me feel safe and like I was at home. I recommend this place to anyone. Also churros and coffee for breakfast. <3

I accidentally had lunch here. I intended for a quick ice cream (which had not been delivered yet) and to carry on with my Camino. But I was easily convinced to have a slice of pizza intead. This is New York style pizza with a number of options for toppings. Delicious!
Also, Oreo, the dog, is a darling.

The best experience in a long time! Second day walking on “El Camino”, and my group of six fell upon this gem. The lovely couple David and Kiera welcomed us to there place. Two beautiful rooms with full bathrooms! That was the beginning. The best part was the pizza! New York style pizza in the middle of Spain. Conversation, laughs, beer and wine, rock and roll, and rest. Can’t want for anything more……until the morning. Homemade churros, chocolate, coffee and tea. Fit for a King….Vagabond Vieras!

Good luck with life, love, and health!

Kisses from George, Joanna, Dan, Jill, Eddie, Kirsten.

We accidentally stumbled on to this place while on the Camino. Outstanding pizza in a tranquil setting, served up by the delightful couple who own the restaurant. Perfect ending to a long day. Also - met “Oreo” their rock star canine assistant!

We stayed in the 4 bed Albergue, which includes a delicious meal of salad and pizza, prepared by David. Wonderful hosts, an excellent nights sleep.

Favorite part of my stay was David shouting up the stairs, “Karina, Dinner is ready!” Reminded me of home. I came down from a super clean upstairs albergue to the restaurant for salad, pizza, wine and community. In the morning I enjoyed breakfast in the kitchen. I am so happy I decided to stay here. Definitely a must on the Camino!

Also, David has the best music selection, I enjoyed every song played as I hung out at the albergue all day.

Dave's place was an oasis of comfort and warmth on the camino. Not only the best home made pizza, salad and welcome, but also a divinely comfortable room for 5, with towels, sheets, a hot bath and a stove. A perfect overnight stop for pilgrims before the climb to O Cebreiro today. Thanks Dave and Oreo!

We (unfortunately) booked the hotel down the road before seeing this place. We walked here for food and had honestly some of the best we’ve ever had, followed by the company! Loved the 90s grunge vibe going (not at all too much) really loved the whole experience, thanks so much 😊
