Taberna Casa Andrés

A true taberna. Small number of tables inside as it was March and cold outside so the terrace wasnt set up. Excellent fried artichoke and excellent baby broad beans. Delightful " fried milk" dessert. Fun guy running the place too... Good local wine...

Only on very very very rare occasions, of course completely unexpected, magic happens in a gastronomic experience, and Taberna Casa Andrés, in Baeza, Jaén, was one of them.

The place: incredible views of thousands of olive trees, the lands between Baeza and Sierra Mágina, the sun, the crystalline clean blue sky, the terrace…

The treat: the courtesy, the warmth, in its perfect touch, with professionalism, with frank and honest recommendations, with a sincere smile, with empathy. We did really felt as part of the Taberna Casa Andrés, close to them and vice versa. We did feel as if they were simply sharing with us the so special food they prepare in their hidden cousine.

The mood & company: my brother in law David (deibid79, a fantastic gourmet) with her girlfriend Ale and my wife Nuria, the four of us spending a fantastic 4 day trip at my parent’s home in Torres, a small and beautiful white town just at the other side of the landscape in a mountainside in the heart of Sierra Mágina.

The food, comments not in order, as they come to my mind: my goodness! absolutely amazing: Kokotxas de Merluza con gambas al Pil-Pil, Alcachofas with genuine magnificent Jamón Ibérico, what an incredible combination, Lagarto Ibérico, sooo tasty, the surprise of the morcilla chorizada con regañás, made by Casa Andrés, the wine..oh, the wine, Casa Mencia DO from the Bierzo area, close to Salamanca. The Carrillada de Cerdo ibérico glaseada al Oporto, the last one to come, it is a plate that needs time, but believe me it is worth the wait, what a meat, like butter, and the sauce…I have no words. The Olive oil “Los Quinientos” was present all the time, we asked for tons of bread, so nice pure green color, no salt to embrace its deep and punchy taste was required. The salad with ecological tomato and ventresca with Reducción de Pedro Ximénez opened the fiesta, fresh, natural, the tomato, real, like the one you may remember dozens of years ago…and last but not least the desert, what can I say ? a delicious Coulant de Chocolate and Leche frita con crema líquida de turrón, stunning!!

The Twist: yes, when all of this happens, during around 3 hours of absolute joy, smiles, breaths…then we asked Andrés: who the hell is doing all this at your kitchen, who is the creator of such magnificent plates, who’s made so many fantastic choices...who !?, and then with proud he says: “my mum”. I just broke into tears, perhaps because of the caldos, perhaps because of the happiness that was floating around, perhaps because of this man's pure humble, I don’t know, but what I do know is that I felt an inconmensurable devotion and respect for the talent of that venerable and shy woman, that reminded me the little treasures we have around in our own homes, secretly kept but never sufficiently appreciated and of course granted.

This last Saturday, 7th March 2020 will remain in my heart forever. The four of us enjoyed as ever, and found a gem, a treasure in itself, a talent, that besides traditions, sometimes, only sometimes, very rarely, you can surprisingly find. As I told Andrés before leaving, that afternoon his mother reminded me the truth behind the motiv of the film Ratatouille: "Anyone can cook", what means you can find a unique talent in the most unexpected human being...perhaps your mum.

We left the place at around 17 pm, with deep happiness, watching how Andrés, the owner of such food temple was preparing the restaurant for the dinner to come, again.

Tasty lunch overlooking the olive groves. A few minutes drive from the center of Baeza

Probably the best meal I have had on this trip to Spain. The food was delicious and came with a great view. Baeza is a lovely little town well worth a visit.

Perfectly cooked meal on a beautiful terrace. The staff were first class.
The meals were extremely generous.
Would highly recommend.

One of the best restaurants on our journey through Andalusia! Everything beginning with service and ending with dessert is just perfect!

Named Casa Andres. Delicious raciones, I loved the goat cheese with two kinds of honey and the home made croquets. Small, intimate and nice personnel.

El lugar es precioso, local decorado con un detalle y encanto especial, música de calidad, rodeado de sierra… la comida riquísima, especial mención para los postres que nos han dejado sin palabras!!! Y como no, el servicio! No se puede ser más amable y simpático. 100% recomendable

Simplemente espectacular. A parte de las vistas, el servicio y la comida nos ha dejado sin palabras. Sobre todo gracias a las recomendaciones de Ricardo, muy atento en todo momento. Experiencia 5/5.
Para nosotros el plato estrella la carne de Angus y el milhojas de queso de cabra.

Hemos ido a cenar esta noche y ha sido una sorpresa maravillosa la comida espectacular y el camarero Ricardo te deja sin palabras, todo lo que hemos pedido es para repetir,alcachofas con jamón,huevo rotos,croquetas caseras y a las tapas que te ponen con la bebida no se les puede poner ni un pero,el restaurante es pequeño pero muy original,el baño es un lugar para visitar aún sin ganas,tiene de todo incluido la música y te sientes como en casa,el vino que nos ha recomendado es de la tierra y estaba buenísimo y el limonchelo casero te hace una muy buena digestión, no puedo ponerle más puntuación por que no hay si no se la pondría sin dudar.Quien venga a Baeza debe visitar la taberna de Andrés y espero volver pronto.

🔶 таверна маленькая и очень колоритная. Вечером полная посадка, поэтому бронируйте заранее🙂
🔶 персонал супер приветливый, официант подробно рассказал про каждое блюдо. Очень круто, что мясо приготовили точно как мы просили!!! С небольшим количеством крови.
🔶 продукты очень хорошего качества. Мы брали говядину с сертификатом, огромная порция мяса - 500 грам без костей (!). Вкусные сладкие овощи, салат хрустящий и свежий. Осьминог очень нежный и сочный. Отдельно приносят соль и перец - можно самим добавить вкус☺.
🔶 отдельно хочу отметить милфей с сыром и помидорами. Мы долго сомневались стоит ли попробовать это экзотическое блюдо😅. В итоге умяли только так, это ОЧЕНЬ вкусно.

Из минусов могу отметить только излишнюю щедрость хозяина на оливковое масло😂 (учитывая его стоимость, я даже не шучу про щедрость). Если бы наши блюда были немного менее масляными, то осталось бы место на десерт 😿. А так мы выкатились из таверны после всего одного сьеденного блюда.

Excelente taberna con una cocina muy bien cuidada y elaborada.
Todo los platos son abundantes y muy bien presentados y de calidad . Todas las opciones de la carta eran apetecibles ,nos dejamos aconsejar por Andres, tanto en la cantidad de platos como con los vinos . Excelente elección , ya que comimos casi sin poder acabar el postre…..El precio razonable.
Rapidez en el servicio y amabilidad del personal..

Mu buen sitio para comer en Baeza!! Todo super rico!! Nosotros pedimos, gambas al pilpil, milhoja, costillar, flamenquin y alcachofas! Además nos pusieron ochios con hamburguesa y encurtidos de tapa con la cerveza. Sin duda recomendable 100%

He ido solo y por casualidad he topado con este lugar desde Granada!!! Y no ha podido ser mejor acierto sin dudarlo!!! Comida, servicio, vistas y un largo etc!!! No pidáis la carta, por favor!! Dejaros aconsejar por el encargado Ricardo, no os va a fallar. Croquetas y Angus 100% acierto.
