Funikularra (Geltokia/estación) (676)

An excellent and different day out from Bilbao ... the funicular itself is very interesting, the ascent gives excellent views over Bilbao and its port. But what makes this really worthwhile is the access it provides to the abandoned mine workings of the Peñas Negras, now an area of trials around a number of lakes. To access these, either walk towards Arboleda and access them through the large car park, or catch the bus into Arboleda (it’s included in the funicular fare, but leaves immediately after the funicular arrives ... you’ll miss it if you pause to admire anything) and then either walk back out of the village to access the trails, or for a longer walk, go up through the the village towards the Peñas Negras interpretation centre, with more outstanding views across to Bilbao port.

If based in Bilbao, you can easily combine the Funicular with the Transporter Bridge. Catch the metro to Areeta, walk down to the bridge, cross the river, the bus to the funicular lower station leaves from a stop about 200m uphill from the bridge. On the return you might get of at Portugalete metro and return to Bilbao from there.

Las vistas desde este mirador son espectaculares, especialmente si tienes la suerte de pillar un día bueno con una puesta de sol bonita. El antiguo funicular desconozco si funciona hoy en día pero si es así merece la pena hacer un viajecito en el.

Para ser un funicular tiene mucha historia y cambios atrabes del tiempo,antes no tenia paredes montaban:coches,mineros,mercancia...

Vistas muy bonitas!!!..y puedes completar la subida con el parque de esculturas al aire libre

Es uno de esos sitios o actividades únicas o fuera de lo común que puedes encontrar en bizkaia. Ven!

Lugar poco conocido pero imprescindible de ver.se disfruta tanto del funicular como del paisaje

Si vas a la Arboleda, no hay mejor forma de comenzar a disfrutar del entorno, que subir en el funicular de la reineta.

Agradable paseo en este histórico medio de transporte... Muy recomendable
