Cristo Del Otero

"At the top of the Cerro del Otero hill stands the Cristo
del Otero, a monument to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The work of the distinguished Palencia sculptor Victorio Macho (1887-1966), it has become an artistic icon and tourist symbol of the city of Palencia.

This monumental concrete sculpture owes its existence to the tenacity of Bishop Parrado, the architect Jerónimo Arroyo and his brilliant sculptor.

It is the tallest Christ in Spain and one of the tallest in the world. It measures more than 21 metres and weighs 392 tonnes.

The first stone was laid on 15 June 1930 and it was built in just eight months, being completed in February 1931. It was inaugurated on 12 June 1931. Coincidentally, the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro was inaugurated in the same year and the two cities partner in joint actions to promote the two Christs internationally.

It shows cultural influences from styles such as art, deco, cubism or Byzantine art."

It was totally worth going up to see el Cristo. Awesome vibes and views. Museum wasn’t open but it was still worth going.

The world's third largest Jesus will not disappoint! See the Lord on top of a hill on the outskirts of a minor town. The Big Jesus was impressive in its artistic style, seen in the impressive architecture. There is a museum at the feet of Jesus to explain the design of the Third Largest Jesus in the world (behind the one in Rio Di Janeiro and another massive Jesus) with information in Spanish (not surprising seeing as it is in Spain). The view was also amazing. The only disturbing thing about this particularly large son of the Lord was that He had no eyes in his eye sockets. This was so people could look out of them, but from a distance he doesn't look how Jesus has been traditionally depicted (i.e. with eyes). This humongous third of the Holy Trinity was overall very good.

To know really Palencia, you must go up to the top and enjoy the landscape of the city..totally amazing ..Mi viudad querida. La bella desconocida. The unknown beautiful. ❤

Merece la pena subir andando y verlo de cerca.....desde sus pies se puede ver todo Palencia. Precioso!!! Y de noche...aún mas bonito

Hacia tiempo que quería visitarlo, y por fin hemos ido hace un par de fines de semana.

En el propio cerro del Cristo del Otero, el Segundo cristo más alto del mundo, después del de Río de Janeiro en Brasil,existe un museo dedicado al autor del mismo, donde se puede ver su vida e historia a través de su obra, totalmente recomendable visitarlo.

Las vistas de la ciudad de Palencia son espectaculares, y para casa persona palentina, o descendiente, tiene un sentido muy importante la visita.

Tiene un merendero a lado donde poder comer tranquilamente.

El museo es gratuito y dispone de WC.

Eén van de grootste Christus beelden van de wereld. Zeer goed onderhouden en het staat op een prachtige locatie, waar je een mooi zicht hebt over Palencia. Een aanrader om de berg te voet of met de fiets te beklimmen.

Pues una estatua gigante, que impone a la vista y digna de visitar. Una de las más grandes del mundo. Está el museo al lado que se puede visitar previo pago. Merece la pena.

Si lo ves de lejos impresiona, pero si te quedas a los pies, impresionante aún más. Algo te sobrecoge por dentro sin saber lo que es. Es posible que el arte, la dedicación, la perfección dedicada a algo superior con tanto amor es lo que trasciende a la obra, más allá de la foto o el selfie de rigor lo que uno puede llevarse es una sensación. Si pasas por Palencia y visita altamente recomendada.

Palencia es una ciudad desconocida y tiene grandes monumentos como el Cristo del Otero. Es fascinante ver cómo se pudo realizar teniendo en cuenta los medios del momento. Merece la pena subir y conocer esta fantástica obra del genio Victorio Macho: es el Cristo más alto de España y uno de los más altos del mundo

Está muy bien. Y las vistas que hay a la cuidad de Palencia pero creo que tenía que tener más atractivo turístico con las laderas un poco verdes unos setos porque está todo seco y poco cuidado

Nos encontramos alli en la parte baja del monumento, una exposicion que explicaba e interpretaba que significó este monumento para los palentinos, habia una chica que explicaba de maravilla y contestaba a todas las preguntas.
