Auberge Saint Jean

Lovely owners and staff. Properly French food is cooked from scratch. Had a superb lunch with friends. They don't hurry you and leave time between courses. Highly recommended.

Hubby and I had a wonderful lunch today. I had the lamb shank and creme brulee. Hubby had the chicken and vege tagine with the enormous sundae for dessert. All the food was amazing and the staff were all great and very friendly.

We are lucky enough to live close to the St Jean, as it’s a charming family restaurant with excellent food, and great service, and we love going there on a regular basis!
10/10 every time!

We had a delicious lunch here today. It’s our second visit and as we now live in Sauzé-Vaussais it won’t be our last. Good quality and unpretentious, we both had the tagine of lamb which was wonderful. Staff are great and very helpful if your French isn’t perfect (like mine)😁

Gorgeous restaurant in a mediaeval building. Lovely and friendly staff. Food is amazing and prices are quite reasonable. I had the duck confit and creme brulee, my mum had the menu du jour which was quite a lot of food for €15!

Petit dejeneur €11 pastry, bacon & egg, fruit, cafe, bread…excellent value. Very friendly family business - opposite church, very nice start to day.

Wonderful experience. We did not have a reservation on a Friday lunchtime however the staff were very accommodating and organised a great table outside in the sun next to the beautiful church. They did not have a vegan option on the menu but that was no problem, the owner and the chef organised a great 2 course vegan meal for us on the spot. Beautiful people, beautiful food, beautiful location! Big portions at small prices. A must visit if you are around the area!!

Indian Experience. Yet another super evening at the Saint Jean! At the behest of the British contingent, Jöel hosted an Indian evening and, as usual, it did not disappoint! Start to finish was a triumph, with everything being delicious, apart from a small issue with the Nan bread. If you see this on again, go for it, as it is every bit as good as the authentic Indian restaurant in Angoulême!

Under new management for the past month, Jöel and Corrine are eager to serve menus attractive to the mixture of French and l'etrangers.
Just returned from their Fish and Chip evening and I have to say their menu is more than value for money! The food was beautifully presented and the star attraction - Le Fish & Chips was crisp, delicious and piping hot! Accompanied by a delicious rosé from the owners own selection. A superb evening, very well priced, by people who are eager to please. They are dedicated to using local produce, excellently prepared & presented, attentive staff, with hands on management, ensuring your satisfaction.
Our first, but most definitely not our last, visit!

We ate here last night and every dish we had, from the starters to the puddings, were absolutely delicious (including a beautifully tender steak, cooked to perfection, that I didn’t want to end!). We ate outside, and we had our dog with us who was made to feel very welcome! He was given a bowl of water, then at the end of the meal the owner (I think it was) brought him out some chunks of meat for him! I would highly recommend the restaurant.

A beautiful restaurant in a beautiful village. New owners Joël and Corinne will alway make you feel welcome. Great meals in a lovely setting. Try the Plat de Jour during the week (shut Wednesday and Thursday) which fantastic value.

Very nice Restaurant with excellent food and friendly owners, went for coffee ended up staying for lunch glad we did, would definitely recommend.
