Showcase Cardiff Nantgarw

Been to this cinema a number of times, the most recent visit was 22nd March (last month) for the opening day of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

Positives about this cinema include the large free car park, the Costa coffee shop inside the cinema, the six hour free WiFi connection provided by Showcase, the number of toilets on site (both in each of the screen corridors and in the foyer), and the sheer size of the place. All of the furnishings within are pretty much unchanged from when this cinema first opened back in the late 90s, and all of them are very well preserved and need no 'updating' whatsoever. The screens are laid out in such a way that handrails are available on both sides of the auditoriums, for those with mobility problems. The seats, which are around 25 years old and still perfectly fine, have a feature where the backrest reclines slightly.

Now for the drawback.
On the date previously mentioned above, a group of four (three women and one guy) entered Screen 7 and sat towards the front. The guy had obvious learning difficulties and was playing around on a phone. He did this for the entire duration of the movie, volume on, drowning out the dialogue. Staff entered the screening twice to do their routine checks during the film, both times they either missed or ignored this behaviour. It's a shame because I bloody love this place, but the film was ultimately ruined for all the paying customers in the screening because of this behaviour (one of the women in the group was blatantly on her phone as well).
I'm not going to stop coming, it's a great cinema (the only branch of Showcase in all of Wales, with its second nearest being the one in Avonmeads Bristol, which I have previously reviewed), and we already have tickets booked for the 25th Anniversary screening of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace on 5th May.
But please ensure that staff patrol the screenings more regularly, and please ensure that the above behaviour doesn't occur again.

Accessibility is wonderful, this cinema is fully wheelchair accessible and I did not struggle at all as a rollator user. The disabled parking spaces are right in front of the doors, staff is helpful and polite and of course it's always a great time coming here. Good cinema.

They have dotted the I’s and crossed the T’s. This place knows its better than the cinemas in Cardiff town all because of the very big and easy parking. This place welcomes the pro pink Feminist of Barbie, the Chads of Oppenheimer, the Brainless of Fast and Furious series, secret fascists of Sound of Freedom, geeks and nerds of any anime film and annoying children of any children movie. They got it all going in here.

This is an awesome cinema, away from the manic traffic of Cardiff town centre only 15 minutes away by car. Very reasonably priced drinks and popcorn. There's a nice seating area in the foyer as well if you want to sit and chat. There's also a Costa coffee on premises which is open. Reasonably late. Definitely a good location for a date night near Cardiff

Finally a cinema that does free refil on drinks! Will definitely go back to this bad boy. Staff were amazing, recommended deals, rather than leaving us to pay the earth for it individually.

Amazing place we love it I'm always playing pool on their awesome full size tables and the kids run free on the amusements win win there are also a great selection of beers on tap or bottle 😉😉

Been there with the ladies I support with wheelchairs and without the other 2...the staff friendly and helpful...we had snacks and diet coke,very relaxing seats and disabled parking in front of doors...easy access...I've been with my toddler as well,not realx because of toddler but fun day!!!

Easier than Cardiff as parking is free and always plenty of spaces. Friendly staff. Clean tidy and the self service till is easy to use. I live in North Cardiff if I travelled into the City, I would havd to pay parking,dodgy bus lanes and speed cameras and pay more than the £8 I paid to watch Guardians of the Galaxy.

Popped in for a costa, clean & tidy with plenty of options for all & staff were very nice 👍

Lovely retro feel cinema with friendly staff and a Costa Coffee. It's worth getting an Insider card for discounted tickets. Free parking and plenty of restaurants nearby. My go to cinema.

I won't go into Cardiff for cinema again. Nantgarw is easy to reach just off the A470, plenty of free parking, and a whole range of food outlets for the family around it. Staff in the cinema were very friendly and it has a variety of screens for different experiences.

Absolutely lovely venue with really reasonable prices too.

First time I’ve been to this cinema for a long time. Easy to park. The cinema was clean, tidy and the staff were polite and friendly. Normal prices on food and drink but also a Costa Coffee inside. Staff helpful. Will go back again!

Clean and tidy , easily found a seat to watch a Sky promoted film .
Was staying in Monmouth , so made it part of our day out ..

Great cinema, lucky to have it so local. Absolutely tons of parking & a variety of restaurants & fast food places within walking distance. Great foyer, spacious, good concessions stand with loads of food & drink options. Costa coffee is inside the cinema towards the screens which is great, they allow you to take your Costa into the screen as long as it is in a takeaway cup. Tickets & food are probably a little on the pricey side but still cheaper than the bigger chain cinemas & it’s just par for the course these days, it’s probably worth signing up to the Insider programme if you’re planning on going more than once a month.

Huge cinema, prices are steep, definitely recommend popping down the road to the convenience store as there are way more snacks and drinks there for 1/5 of the cost

I enjoy going to Showcase Cardiff Nantgarw because it has a very relaxed atmosphere. Staff are always friendly and helpful,and always have a great cinema experience

Great experience! Food and drink available but can be expensive and be a bit cold so bring a jacket.

We are moving to Pontypridd so decided to try out showcase as we haven’t been here in years. It’s a great little cinema, comfy seats that won’t break your back, the food is fresh and the place was buzzing when we arrived. A costa at the back for those who don’t like usual Cinema snacks.

Grab an insider card earn points money off and events with any showcase evenings on Sunday £7.50 a ticket and all day Monday and Tuesday with a insider card! Food can also gain you points 😁
