Just heading home on the train after a wonderful long weekend learning all things woodland skills based with Ian, Davie, Rob, Kaya and Rob! Learnt so much and it was a full on experience with plenty of interesting activities and boss home cooked food too! Shame about the rain but the good spirits in our lovely group helped lift the mood. Such amazing instructors and LOTS of areas covered. I came with no preconceptions and I think this helped. These guys really do know their stuff and I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to get the low down on safe and legal practices in the woods when it comes to tools, knowledge and techniques, I really did absorb it all and came away buzzing!

Thank you to all who attended, taught or helped out :)

Had an absolutely incredible time on the beginner's course in Oxford!

Our guides Jay, Patrick, Rob, Andy, and Evan were all super friendly and exceptionally knowledgeable. I could have listened to them talk for hours! Their passion for bushcraft was palpable and they were patient with all of us along every step of the journey.

I particularly enjoyed all of the game prep sessions and the shelter building, as it gave me a new-found appreciation for just how difficult but also satisfying being in nature and respecting nature can be.

My only small piece of feedback would be that I would have loved the quiet contemplation section to have been a bit longer but, as someone who has regularly stared at their garden bird feeder for hours, I feel like that might be a personal preference!

I would strongly recommend this course to anyone who is even remotely outdoorsy. You'll come away with so much practical knowledge and a real sense of achievement!

Absolutely amazing! (East Lothian, Scotland)

The course was very well designed and executed by true professionals in the field. My feedback is from the perspective of someone who hasn’t been close to nature - born and raised in a city.

The course is designed in a way to lay out the principles of surviving in the wilderness without exposing you to life-threatening conditions. You will most probably have to do things, not complicated but rather fundamental for our human nature. The activities include knife handling and safety, water purification and fire-starting principles, shelter building, foraging, traps and snares and animal skinning.

The instructors, Andy and Davie were the definition of professionals. Deeply knowledgeable and very well-spoken.

I’d especially recommend the course to someone like me who had zero touch with nature. Truly eye-opening.

This is a great place to shop both in store and online. Excellent service and advice. I went to get a decent knife for use around my allotment and the staff were very helpful and gave great advice on selecting strong well priced (cheap sounds tacky) knife. I will be back as they have amazing products for the outdoorsy person. I am also tempted to try some bonding with my son at one of there courses later in the year.

I took part in the tandem Introduction to moving water course on the river Derwent, we cant recommend WW enough.
Jason, our instructor and with the help of Michaela held the session starting off showing us how to set up and the reasons why they are set up that way, skills in reading the water, different techniques in paddling. A fully comprehensive course that improved my confidence on the water a great deal.
I now have my eye on the other canoe expeditions WW have to offer. Thanks Y'all!

Had a fantastic weekend, even with some adverse weather in the Derbyshire Woodland on the Woodland Ways Bushcraft Weekend. Learned a lot of helpful knowledge to apply to life and bushcraft from the knowledgeable instructors and apprentices, who were all approachable and friendly (with a good amount of humour as was needed in the weather we had). Prepared game for the first time and ate some delicious meals - Wood Pigeon stir fry being my personal highlight.
Lots of useful facts about laws applying to all areas of bushcraft to prevent getting into any bother.
Getting to sleep in my shelter in the rain and not get wet felt like an achievement along with making friction fire for the first time.
If you're on the fence about attending this course and love the outdoors, you won't regret a weekend spent here.

Super helpful and friendly staff. The shop has a wide selection of bushcraft equipment, camping equipment etc.

I purchased a Pathfinder stainless steel pot during my visit.

I have been using it for over 3 months now and it's still going strong.

Would highly recommend.

I’ve been on several different courses with woodland ways and wether you’re looking to have a run and informative weekend in the woods or learn some natural world skills this is the company for you. The instructors genuinely love what they do and it comes through in all the teaching. Love this company so much and can’t wait for my next course.

Great shop for good quality camping equipment. The shop owner was very helpful and welcoming, was very informative about the best ways to maintain and use hatchets as well as what to look out for without any attempt to unnecessarily upsell. Would highly recommend for those wanting to upgrade their camping set-up.

Myself and 8 year old son completed the 24 hour Family Survival Course in Derbyshire. We had Barry who was fantastic throughout the course and very knowledgeable and shared much knowledge and skills with the whole group and even some 1to1 where appropriate.

Myself and Son gained valuable skills in how to make a waterproof shelter, fire lighting along with the correct materials from nature to use, food prep from wild pigeon, making flat bread etc.

My son loved all the course had to offer and now look for further skills with Woodland Ways, we highly recommend using Woodland Ways and get on the courses. If you have a child definitely do the family Survival course I promise you will not regret it, we not only gained valuable life skills but made some good friends along the way.

Barry is a true assist to Woodland Ways and really knows his stuff, he is polite and friendly and always engaging with knowledge.

We will definitely be returning in 2024 for further courses in Derbyshire and maybe another Survival Course with my lad in another location for a different experience to remember. see you in 2024 Barry

The other week we ventured to Woodland Ways - World of Bushcraft in Matlock. It was our second visit to this shop and both times the staff have been nice, friendly and really helpful with queries/information and experience.

Okay, so I’m going to start by saying I am not someone who usually writes reviews. However, I feel it my civic duty to tell the internet what they’re missing out on.
I booked onto the weekend wilderness survival course in Derbyshire cause of my love for the outdoors, and the desire to learn how to act sustainably and with respect when living off the land.
Our instructor for the weekend was the wonderful Jay, and he was helped by a lovely chap called Luke. Now these are what you call top blokes.
Jay is a fountain of knowledge of all things survival; from how to navigate by looking at a crescent moon, to how to process game and fish, utilising as much as you can of the animal. He taught us with good humour while maintaining the serious aspect of why we would be needing to use these new skills. He was encouraging, approachable, and inspiring. I learnt so many valuable skills this weekend, and there is no one I would’ve preferred to have taught me. Whataguy.
The setting was beautiful (see pictures). We heard tawny owls and saw so many bird species, which you get to enjoy with a brew in the morning.
I came out of this course grounded and with a new perspective and respect for the value of natural resources.
Bring a good sleeping bag.

Fantastic day yesterday on the Spring Foraging Course at the Haddon estate in Derbyshire. Our instructors Davey and Ian were brilliant, so knowledgeable, enthusiastic and friendly. We learnt lots of fascinating stuff about local plants, flowers and trees. It was great fun preparing and cooking a delicious meal at the camp of woodpigeon, wild garlic pesto and sauted dandelion, ground elder and nettle.

Woodland Ways are a fantastic company. I’ve done several courses with them & they are always great. Knowledgable, skilled instructors. I’ve just doing a canoeing course, having never done anything like that before. As always the teaching & structure of the day was quality stuff. Book a course with them & you seriously won’t regret it
