Edit: Following the below I do have to add 2 negatives / suggestions:
1. There aren't enough receptionists to take calls.
2. The phone lines are terrible. I've been #1 in the queue for 25 minutes.
Hire more people, get better equipment.

I've decided to rewrite this as they've improved massively over the last couple of years and the last few months especially, and in retrospect my review wasn't very fair. Also a little understanding goes a long way and although doctors surgeries in general are frustrating, we don't know what goes into the jobs of the doctors / receptionists and also the processes they have to adhere to.

They're not without their problems, appointments can be hard to get if you don't know how the system works, and a select few of the doctors are sadly more concerned with getting you out the door than helping, but that's the minority.

Dr. Illot and Dr. Bogal especially are very helpful and professional. Most of the receptionists are also very helpful despite taking call after call non-stop all day long (which if you've never worked a call center type job, is extremely stressful and frustrating as the general public are idiots at the best of times). They also deal with some very rough individuals that think they can have their problems sorted by going in and shouting at staff. I've seen that happen twice in the last year. Tip: It doesn't work.

The bad comes mostly in the form of the doctors as one or two of them are quite dismissive of mental health problems, or in my father's case could barely walk into the doctor's office due to how bad his knee pain is and that same doctor flat out refused to get him into physio or an Xray, and 3 months on he still can't walk despite us contacting numerous times.

With this being a central Caerphilly surgery, you really need to take into account that they're inundated constantly and sadly that does impact service and how much they can do for any one person, however what doesn't help is that there are a lot of people that book appointments for asinine issues like a sore throat or a tickly cough which just clogs up the system and makes it difficult for everyone.

My advice if you want a same-day appointment is to call at exactly 8am and immediately press 2 then 1 on the keypad, this skips the automated system and gets you 1st or 2nd position in the queue. Also be specific with the doctor you'd like to see. You can call any time if you need to see a nurse for bloods etc and generally get an appointment in the next day or two.

If you have to come to the surgery and are of an anxious disposition, there is a quiet side room where you can wait to be called.

The pharmacy next door are quite slow and the people that work there are either fresh out of uni or were born in the reign of Amenhotep III, so prepare to be patient or in some cases even be asked to return an hour later.

Professional service but they didnt keep to appointment time and I was seen after 30minute wait.
Staff though are excellent.

I would give this more stars but unfortunately one of the receptionists really lets them down and is always rude in-person or when you call. I have, however, always found the doctors and nurses professional, helpful and friendly. I love that I can order my prescriptions online and was fab that you could book doctor appointments but due to Covid this has now been taken away. Would be good to get this back in the future as worked well!

Most of the time when I ring up to see or speak to a doctor its fine and I fully appreciate that there are many people who also need the doctor but on a few the wait has been more than 20 minutes just to get through and then it's silence luke you've been cut off ..

Doctors are lovely. Reception staff on the other hand are rude, and are quite happy to leave you stood waiting while they finish their chat and cup of tea
