Bishop's palace turned almshouse with loads of history. Information panels throughout the rooms explaining various details and stages of the building's history. Worth visiting if you're in the area. Closes for the winter (November through March)

Another lovely well presented English heritage building with an extensive history. Parking is on the access road to the church and is limited. The church next door (St Andrews) is also worth a visit.

Really loved it. I'm a history buff and this is just a wonderful place. Was a harsh place to live and you really do get a sense of what it was like. It has beautiful carved oak ceilings. The gentleman behind the till was very knowledgeable and extremely nice.

English Heritage beautiful property. There is limited parking on the street, especially on a Sunday, due to the church. The house is set in the courtyard of the local church (worth a visit as well) with access through a passageway. There is shop and the whole house will take about 30 min to visit. Full of history and combined with other EH properties in the area is well worth for a full day.

Really interesting place to visit owned by English Heritage. The building was in use as a Bedehouse up until the early 1930s when with the introduction of the post war welfare system it was taken over by English Heritage. There is some excellent restoration work and a few of the rooms are decorated to give a feel of how they would be for their occupants.
There are uneven steps and some low doorways so those with reduced mobility or in a wheelchair would not be able to access all areas. Next door is the village church and is also worth a walk around, stones in the graveyard date back late 1700s and early 1800s and the church interior has some quirky additions.

It's not a large place, but still steeped in history.
The entrance is via the church gates.

Very interesting history and building, nice little shop where can get a coffee or ice cream. We spent an hour looking round, then looked round the church and village.

Lyddington Bede house is wonderful and there is a lovely church Saint Andrew's close by . It is set in a very charming , pretty , picturesque village . Well worth a visit plus the lady in the shop was very informative and helpful and just lovely which always helps when visiting new places . Oh just too say though there are no onsite toilets so go before you go 👍.

What a beautiful place! It was a joy and a pleasure visiting Lyddington Bede House. Although most of the building is sadly now a ruin there is more than enough of it left to be able to watch in awe at what must have been one of the grandest buildings in the county if not the country. It is a real shame that due to current restrictions the small available upstairs part of the building is not not accessible to visitors but hopefully times will change and I may be able to tour those parts on a future visit. The architecture is absolutely stunning and I'm sure would be a must see for any budding architect or historian. The building and grounds are maintained as meticulously as possible and I commend those involved. Currently, due to Covid, masks must be worn whilst inside any part of the building and only the disabled accessible toilet is available for use. There are a good group of peacocks and peahens who will certainly keep you company if you choose to have a picnic at any of the eight picnic tables available each of which can seat up to eight people and each table is completely socially distanced from the others. Good amount of parking available with a relatively short walk to the House itself. Absolutely worth a visit and I would heartily recommend it. Just remember, if it is raining or cold, dress appropriately. Keep up the good work English Heritage.

Lovely visit. Really recommend it. It was so interesting to learn that Henry V and his wife at the time, Catherine Howard had stayed there! Also, the church is worth a visit.

Lyddington Bede House is a very interesting English Heritage site. The history of the building is well explained from its original Bishops Palace to the later Bede house. What is left is well preserved. The small grounds are quite peaceful. It was worth a walk around the village too to find the site of the old fish ponds. The English Heritage staff are very knowledgeable and friendly.
