Called into the bar for a drink and had a pleasant hour or so and a few beers. The beer was well kept (Wye valley Fandango and Butty Bach standing out). Bar staff were friendly and efficient. Atmosphere was chilled and well needed on a rainy afternoon.

A locals pub, the barman was excellent, really helpful and friendly. I rarely tip bar staff in the UK, but I did on this occasion.

We tried the food which was really freshly cooked pub grub of high quality. The honey and mustard roast ham was very good indeed.

Definitely worth a visit.

Had a fantastic meal there. Very accommodating, especially as one of our party had food intolerances. The waiter was really friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Met the chef, who was lovely, and who cooked the food to perfection. Prefect medium rare steaks. Would highly recommend. 😊

Kilverts is a family run establishment in Hay on Wye in the centre of town. This is a excellent hostelry which thoughtfully caters for all tastes and requirements. A fine selection of beverages, good food, reasonably priced rooms and extensive facilities for all guests to enjoy. Wood burner stove for those chilly nights and outside heating on the patio area. A function room and a large beer garden to the rear of the premises. Hosts Sheila, Bob and daughter Alex provide a warm welcome to visitors ( and dogs receive extra special attention)! ; their staff are friendly, efficient and pleasant. With much gratitude for outstanding service, this establishment provides a great experience for locals and visitors alike. Thank you guys.xx

My son (11 years old) and I had lunch here and stayed one night; we both enjoyed it. Our twin room was clean and pleasant. Lunch was delicious, with enormous portions, served by pleasant staff. Breakfast the following day was so generous I couldn't finish it - the only time this has ever happened to me. The duty manager was particularly helpful and a pleasure to deal with, despite our numerous special requests to do with cycle storage and drying clothes.

I have to say this was the loveliest welcome we've had the entire time we were in Wales. The lady behind the bar was wonderful. Really friendly, told us anything with 4 legs was welcome bar horses (sorry equine fans 😉) and was not fazed by our pickle and his barky ways. Instead giving him treats and reassuring us. The beer on tap was good with a good range of non alcoholic drinks. They've a lovely beer garden out the back , or you can sit in the front garden and watch the world go by. We would absolutely choose to stay here if we were ever in Wales again in fact we would come back to Wales just to stay here. Highly recommend the place. Lovely people. Actually made a fairly rough week pleasant. Thank you.

Lovely hotel with charm and character. Staff make sure guests are their priority. The hotel is very clean, food is lovely and service with a smile. We were delighted with our large room which had a TV, en-suite, tea/coffee and a very comfy bed.
Delicious breakfast and I can recommend the chicken and leek pie with horseradish mash.
A traditional pub with a great selection of ales and beers and is also dog friendly.
We will definitely come back here.

Bustled into this pub on a cold gloomy afternoon and it totally lifted the spirits - delicious food, a local beer and a few friendly dogs to pet while we were at it. Lovely. I’m sure the rooms are equally lovely because it’s a great vibe, if the pub is anything to go by.

Had a lovely evening here. Staff were friendly knowledgeable and attentive. The chef even gave our molly dog a huge sausage to munch on. He definitely made a freind for life. The food was very tastey with good size portions you certainly won't be going hungry. We would highly recommend this establishment for food and drink. Looking forward to spending more evenings here in the future.

Came upon this on a cold afternoon in December when most of the alternative establishments up in the hills and nearby were simply closed..out of season. Most welcoming to see a place that both served food till 230 , welcomed dogs and had fires burning. Lovely landlady who had a history lesson to share, on invitation along with 1st class service, good beer, coffee and cake along with a decent light lunch menu. Well worth your time if in Hay. And on recommendation watch Dandelion Dead, the true story of an infamous murder where the Doctor who was instrumental in this very case, lived here in the house.

We only popped in for food and was very impressed with the service and the food. I had a beautiful piece of cod with chips etc and Hubby had the burger. Definitely a little gem!

What a fantastic place to visit stayed here for two nights room was very good and the staff are amazing. The hay tap prides itself on quality beers and quality food the pies are to die for. Was there for a CAMRA meeting and they provided us with the most superb buffet on the Saturday lunchtime. The grounds are lovely and is in an excellent position situated in the centre of hay for you too take in this historic town.

Really great place to eat and stay! The pies are top notch, we had a comfortable, very clean room with a cosy bed. Breakfast had lots of variety and was well presented. I won't hesitate in booking to stay here again

We stayed here for two nights, June 2021. Lovely old building, quirky, old oak beams everywhere. The staff are all lovely. The food is good, chef tries very hard.
