The Starting Gate

Visited here for a meal and drinks. The food was excellent and very tasty. Beer choices were good too. Really good value for money and not at all pricey.

It has taken me far too long to write this! But I can't fault this place. My friend and I decided to eat here after a stressful train journey. It was warm and welcoming, and there were tables available. From the start, we were served by Sophie. This girl went above and beyond! My friend has an array of serious allergies and and Sophie went through every item with us and personally spoke to the chef to put our minds at ease. Even when our food arrived and we weren't sure about a sauce, Sophie still went and double-checked for us! Most importantly for us, Sophie didn't make my friend feel any different. It was no hassle and and she was so patient with us. We can not thank Sophie enough!!! We were also served by the manager and another server who did our drinks, and they were both brilliant! The food was also very tasty and arrived hot and quickly! When we are in that area again, we will definitely be returning. Thank you!!!

I reserved an area for 10 guests and was provided with plenty of comfortable seating with access to an outside space. The food was great and was served promptly at the time requested. We spent a very enjoyable afternoon and evening. The experience was enhanced by the very pleasant and attentive staff, in particular Aytun, who ensured we had a lovely time.

Wonderful place near Alexandra Palace, the food is excellent and the staff very attentive, Aggie was super friendly as if she had known us forever. I recommend it at any time.

Had a good experience at the Starting Gate. My plant burger was excellent! Sadly my friends chips were undercooked and her crumble was mediocre.
But the service was amazing. We were looked after by Aggie and she was attentive and lovely. Thanks for making a great experience Aggie!

Great food and kind staff. Sunday roast was amazing. Service a bit slow despite it not being super busy at the time, but overall staff were very helpful and the atmosphere at lunchtime was great.

The food was excellent (roast beef and roast chicken). The vegetables and sides were top notch! A lovely traditional building, close to Alexandra Palace where we had been for an event. Aggie, our server was fantastic and really looked after us well.

The blonde Australian, I believe her name was Sophie, is the most beautiful, attentive, wonderful server I have ever experienced. I have been to thousands of pubs in my lifetime as a recreational alcoholic, but Sophie is the best drink making, food-delivering angel I have ever encountered. She deserves the world. Or at least free brownies for life.

Love the atmosphere, great old word feel. Excellent friendly customer service especially from Sophie! My dog had a little accident there and she was so understanding. Looking forward to visiting again soon. Hopefully with no mishaps! 😅

I was starving and thought let me go in. Lovely n clean. Staff friendly. My steak was just delicious. Chips were nice. Lovely glass of wine. I wanted to sit for ages an relax. It was peaceful. Had to go as my phone was charging. But would definitely return

Nice people, and they were not afraid to play Metal. Very hard to find Pubs in Germany that are willing to play harder music styles.

Great London pub with quality food and a lovely atmosphere 👌🏻 We were very happy to be sat in this pub for a few hours. There’s a decent choice of drinks, and I’d personally recommend the ham hock & turkey pie.

Ate and drank here tonight. Pleasant and helpful staff. Food tasty and superior for pub food.

It looks nice there, we only had 2 glasses of mulled wine and hot chocolate for the kids. The girl who served us was pleasant. We enjoyed it there.

I went to check out the place the week before, then i decided to go this wednesday, finishing work early made it possible to treat myself to a lovely burger with free glass of red Chiraz wine, I also ordered the apple & gooseberry crumble with vanilla icecream, a beauty. Beautiful pub. I emailed the photos to my family in France too .

Loved it! A beautiful barmaid who looked like a mini princess Dianna served me some delicious Asahi Extra Dry!

Amazing food and really good service. Thoroughly enjoyable roast and would definitely recommend. Great location and really great we can bring our dog along. Will definitely come back here.

What a surprise find. Untouched for 100 + years and just lovely wood everywhere inside, beautiful food and nice way to spend a few hours

What a gorgeous pub! Lovely staff, we had Sybil, who made us feel very welcome and catered to. Great place for a meal as the food is delicious! And great atmosphere also for a good night out in one of the liveliest parts of north London.
