Fernweh Camper Van Hire

We recently spent the week in Ferny from Fernweh Campers on a tour of the Scottish West Coast.

The trip was everything we hoped it would be and our first experience of a Campervan holiday!

The hiring of the van through Fernweh and dealing with Richard was a fab experience. With online videos created to speed up the handover process and to comply with COVID-19 regulations, the whole process was excellent. Richard was thorough and clear and made sure we were comfortable throughout our holiday.

The van itself we couldn't fault at all. Lovely and clean, and well stocked (including a complimentary bottle of wine and a couple of Ales :-)) We also made full use of the bike rack on the rear!

We'll definitely hire a camper van again and would recommend Fernweh in a heartbeat!

Fantastic weekend in the Brecon Beacons with Woody. Even through the stormy weather at the end of July, Woody was warm, quiet and really comfortable. Thoroughly recommend the VW California Ocean and Fernweh Campervan Hire, Richard and Gillian provide a wonderful service.

Rich corresponded frequently beforehand to ensure we had everything we needed for a successful trip out in Ferny. Andy and Rich delivered the camper to our house with complementary rose and beer. The lads spent a long time running through all the features of the van and by the time we were on our way I was confident in operating the many features of the van. The van itself is well resources with loads of additional kit including cutlery, crockery, tables, chairs, BBQ, pop up tent. We didn't use much of it but could see how useful it could/would be on longer trips. As Ferny wasn't being used the day after Rich allowed us a bit more time on the day of return. The van is of great quality, we absolutely loved spending time in it as a family and will be purchasing a van on the back of our time away. Thanks again for a first class service.

Highly recommend these guys. It was a last minute hire for us but everything went smoothly because the kit is top quality, well maintained and a thorough demonstration before heading out. We had always wanted to try a camper van holiday so in October 2020 we contacted Richard at Fernweh.

Norfolk beckoned, and as we are in the Covid era Richard sent us loads of information in an email, including many video links so that we could learn how to operate and make best use of the van.

Woody is of a very high spec, and we only had to add sleeping bags, towels etc, some provisions and stuff for the dog.

The drive away awning was a real bonus, as it gave additional store bearing in mind we had quite a bit of rain during our stay. However that didn’t deter us from driving to, and enjoying the fabulous beaches on this coast.

The beds were comfortable, and we enjoyed breakfast in the van and evening meals in the awning.

Would highly recommend an adventure in a Fernweh campervan.

Hiring a van through Fernweh has been a great experience all round. The process itself was clear and Richard was really helpful with any questions along the way. The van was in great shape and has everything onboard that you need to make life simple and comfortable. The drive away awning was very helpful and made heading out for the day easy. We'll definitely hire a camper van again and would recommend Fernweh.

We had a wonderful time driving to Italy in Ferny. Richard was a pleasure to deal with and went out of his way to be helpful and responsive- which was very much appreciated as a first time campervan hirer. The VW California campervan itself was excellent- perfect condition, very comfortable for myself and my three children, great to drive and kitted out with everything we needed (and more!) for a fabulous trip. I would have no hesitation in recommending anyone to look at hiring Ferny. We’ve got the campervan bug now and will be hiring again from Richard at Fernweh.

As a special anniversary treat for my wife(and our Chocolate Lab), I decided to hire a VW camper for the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend.
On collection of the vehicle I was greeted by Richard & Gillian who were very welcoming & friendly.
Richard went through all the paperwork, explaining along the way and then he showed me round the vehicle, demonstrating the operation of various tasks where necessary.
The VW California is gorgeous, drives like a dream with lots of storage and ingenious hidden accessories.
There was plenty of kitchen equipment and cleaning stuff provided. We had an extra lovely surprise, a complimentary bottle of bubbly to help us celebrate our anniversary 😊
Richard and Gillian are an extremely friendly and approachable couple, providing a professional service at an average hire cost.
The whole experience was flawless and I hope anyone reading this review, thinking of hiring out a Campervan gives this new company a try – you won’t be disappointed.

Excellent service, Booked ‘Woody’ for a weekend In Norfolk through Richard at Fernweh . Van was in immaculate condition and very well equipped. Had a brilliant weekend even though it rained the whole time! On our day of return the sun finally came out and Richard was kind enough to allow us extra time to enjoy a little sunshine with the camper.Will be using Fernweh again, highly recommended

We recently hired a VW Campervan (Ocean/Californian) from FERNWEH Campervan Hire in Mountsorrel for a 3 day trip to Cornwall.

We had a wonderful trip and cannot praise too highly the professional & friendly support provided by FERNWEH (Richard).

‘Ferny’ our Campervan was equipped to the highest standards, spotlessly clean (to COVID highest standards), and fully stocked with devices to make our trip all the more comfortable/enjoyable (thanks for the complimentary bottle of wine!).

Richard provided full instructions/videos and practical advice for anyone unfamiliar with the workings of a VW Campervan, which was most welcome.

We have no hesitation in recommending FERNWEH to anyone and I am sure we will be back for another trip maybe to Scotland.

Excellent Van and great service. I would highly recommend using Fernweh camper van hire. The van was of a very high standard and specification and there were also a lot of useful extras included like external stove and kitchen utensils. We had prompt communications with Richard prior to booking and he than gave us a great introduction to the workings of the van so we could just relax and enjoy the break.

My wife and 2 young children recently hired a campervan from fernweh. We travelled to Poole and Bournemouth. The whole process from start to finish was hugely professional and the communication we received from rich was flawless. The van was so easy to use and also to drive. The fact that it is a high spec modern vehicle, meant that all the usual tricky parts that the vintage vans throw at you are taken care of with ease (such as the roof, power steering and the lack of power you had to deal with on the classics) all taken care of perfectly in this model. For anyone without any experience using a campervan have no doubt you will finish your holiday an expert due to the ease of the functions on this van. I was always going to be biased about hiring the van as I spent my childhood in the classic campers with my family and it brought back so many fond memories. With the way of the world right now it’s an easy choice to do this even if it’s just something you need to tick off the bucket list. Beware though it’s addictive. Thanks again rich

We'd totally recommend anyone hiring from Fernweh Campervan Hire. The California van was immaculate and Richard took us through all of the 'how to' at the start - gas supply, pop up roof, diesel heater. It really was a full service experience and the additional equipment meant that we could leave all of our usual camping equipment at home. The little touches they've added (e.g. graters, corkscrews, tea towels) were of a similar high standard to the spec of the VW California. Richard's communication was excellent from beginning to the end and he was also really flexible with the collection and return times. We had an amazing long weekend and we'll certainly be booking again!

From start to finish the whole experience using Fernweh was so easy and just a pleasure, we had such a great time in the Peak District. Being first time users of a campervan I was unsure what to expect but Richard went into great detail showing all required to get the best out of the van and put us at ease knowing he would be available should we have any questions throughout the weekend. The California was immaculate and there were plenty of extras thrown in (tea, coffee, washing up liquid and even some wine) which all made our weekend away that little extra special. Upon returning the van, Richard was very accommodating and just asked us to keep him informed of an ETA when approx. 1 hour away so he could be with us for the return which was a nice way to finish our break as we didn’t feel rushed to get back for an exact time.

I honestly couldn’t recommended Fernweh Campervan Hire enough and we will surely be back very soon.

This was the first time myself, my wife and two children have hired a campervan. The whole experience from start to finish was a good one. Richard is a genuinely nice person and very informative. The explanation given before you take the campervan away for your trip is helpful and ensures you don’t end up guessing what to do when away. The pricing is resonable and campervan in A1 condition, with everything you need for a trip away already prepared for you. We will certainly use Fernweh again. Regards the Harts.

We had a wonderful time hiring “Woody” from Fernweh campervan hire. Richard and Gillian couldn’t have been more helpful or accommodating. Woody was in mint condition, and had everything we needed for a comfortable and cosy family getaway. You can tell they are experienced travellers by the fact that everything is thought of. Woody’s kitchen is equipped with an array of high quality camping utensils, making cooking wherever you stop a breeze.

As a vehicle, Woody is a real pleasure to drive, being far more manoeuvrable than you would think, and having very good sensors and cameras to help you out. We really rated the VW automatic transition too.

Richard explained everything very thoroughly when we picked Woody up, which meant there were no issues to deal with, and we felt confident to turn on the gas and open and close the poptop, straightaway.

We were very impressed at the speed with which our deposit was returned to us. And this bears mentioning because the deposit is extremely reasonable compared to the £2,000 being asked from other hire companies, so to have got it back so quickly was an extra bonus.

We had a lovely time, despite the wet weather and low temperatures. Woody kept us safe and warm, and we’ve pined for him ever since. We can highly recommend Fernweh Campervan hire, and will definitely return as customers. But this time, having seen the location of the business, we wouldn’t hesitate to also leave our car behind, with total confidence.

Can't recommend Fernweh highly enough. The van is fantastic, so well kitted out. Lots of thoughtful details to make the stay additionally comfortable and welcoming. Really good value and great service - nothing was too much trouble and Rich was very responsive and helpful. The van is great fun to drive, feels really safe and camping will never be the same again!

Definitely recommend renting from Fernweh. I arranged a hire with Richard as a present for my parents. He was very accommodating, did a great job of making sure they had everything they needed for their trip. My parents had a great time, and couldn't speak highly enough of the van (and how well equipped it was), handover etc.

Great experience from start to finish. Top quality vans, fully kitted out. Andy and Rich are great chaps, both willing to help from start to finish…through out the booking process right until you have to drop the van back. Highly recommend this company 10/10 👍🏻
