We had our marriage anniversary at The Wheatsheaf and it was so nice. Good food and drinks with reasonable prices. My wife really enjoyed the beef with roasted potatoes and Yorkshire Pudding. From starter to Main to Dessert was on point. The Vanilla Ice cream with chocolate sauce was superb. Staffs and owner were very friendly and welcoming. Their level of professionalism is up to par! We were welcomed with a complimentary drink. Thank You The Wheatsheaf

Firstly, terrific food, we'll definitely be returning.
The free homemade olive bread with butter and oil was a great touch and absolutely delicious - so much so I didn't get a picture before we ate it.
The Pork Belly was spectacular, the best pork I've ever tasted and I'd wholly recommend it. A full piece of crackling along the edge was great and made for a special treat.
My beef was also excellent, not as flavoursome as the pork was but tender and still delicious. The roast potatoes were great too, hard crunchy outsides but a perfect fluffy softness inside, just how you want them, and the accompanying gravy was a decent thickness and full of flavour itself. The Yorkshire was huge and crunchy, maybe a little too well done on the outside edge which made it a tad dry but the body was great.
Desserts were also very good, the creme brulee had a great top on it and the flavours worked very well together. The ginger sponge wasn't too heavy and the subtle sweet ginger was a nice end to the meal.
Definitely recommended!

Just called in for a coffee after a walk. The coffees were small but very tasty, just after we arrived we saw food being served to another table in the bar and it looked amazing, this was confirmed by all four plates being cleared by the customers. We asked to see a menu explaining that we had just eaten so unfortunately wouldn't be eating, no problem said the landlord. Prices were not extortionate and we will definitely eat there next time. Lots of pleasant staff and the place was large, spacious and clean. Dogs are welcome. Large car park at the rear and the entrance looked easy access for wheelchairs

Me and my boyfriend went in on a whim because we got turned away at another pub and we were so glad they had a table for us. The weather was lovely, so we sat outside and had a few pints and one of their open sandwiches.
Both the ladies behind the bar and the gentleman that came out to serve us were lovely and made us feel very accommodating.
Will definitely return in the future

Great place - food looked good too but just had a couple of pints in the garden. Cleanest pub toilets I have visited in a long time

Flawless
Great personal service, ambience, and top-notch food

It was a great find, a 45-minute from home, and well worth it for a long overdue catch-up with a friend.

Nice little touch of homemade onion bread and homemade butter served as a pre starter.

For starters, we had chicken liver parfait, which was the best yet, smooth and creamy served with warm toast. Also, apple goats cheese and spiced pecan salad.

Mains, both of us opted for the roast beef. I'm glad we did. Otherwise, one would have had good envy.
Beautifully served pink with the largest Yorkshire pudding I've ever been served. Great combo of sides and sauces.

Dessert, we didn't really have room, but we managed to share a pavlova! Delicious light meringue served with whipped cream and fresh strawberries.

I would recommend a visit. We are looking forward to coming over on a week day in the near future.

Excellent country pub with great quality food.

Our party tried the pate, camembert, steak tartare, terrine and cod cheeks starters. All were superb - well presented and delicious.

For mains we had tiger prawns, duck breast, pork belly and steak. Again a good selection of the menu and not a single "miss" - everything was delicious.

Good selection of ales and wines (I had a light vinho verde which was lovely).

Would recommend visiting if in the area as I'm not sure you'll find better quality food unless you travel much further afield.

Travelling from London to Yorkshire, I asked Google for places to eat along A1 this is what it brought up. Fantastic staff and the food first class, will definitely be stopping here again, back on the road after a beautiful meal.

It's been a pleasure every time to visit the Wheatsheaf on many occasions over the years since my parents moved into the area, and where I also now live. The staff have always been very welcoming and attentive, and Scott and Carol have worked hard to earn a well deserved reputation for fabulous food, an awesome selection of wines, wholesome beers, and friendly hospitality in the region. I think I have tried most dishes on the menu and never been disappointed. It's hard to pick a favourite, but if you're undecided my dad invariably chooses the pork belly when it's on, and mum loves the panna cotta. It's well worth asking Scott for wine recommendations to go with your meal if you're not the designated driver, his knowledge is remarkable, although I prefer a pint of beer. Beautiful pub, gorgeous food and drink, and wonderful people. Highly recommended.

Enjoyed a delicious lunch here on our first visit toThe Wheatsheaf. Staff were attentive and friendly. Beer was kept well with reasonable range. We ate off the lunch menu with a choice of 2 options on each course. Very well cooked and presented. Also decaff coffee that tasted like coffee. Great lunch and recommend.

This place has a great team running it. The boss is a great chap and his staff are genuinely dedicated. The food is the best, seriously the best. I couldn't speak after my pan fried plaice, unbelievable chips and superb salad, it was soooo good. We were presented with a complimentary bread, oil & balsamic appetiser, this was delicious particularly with the home made orgasmic bread. We couldn't eat any more after the main course so missed dessert. But we will be back.
