We had a fantastic meal with family. The service was brilliant, the food was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Best food I’ve eaten in a long time! We’re already planning a return visit.

I didn't have the pleasure of staying there but did have the wonderful experience of dining here one evening. I couldn't fault any one component throughout the evening. The staff were well presented, polite and friendly. The restaurant dining area was bustling with the the hubbub of happy and appreciative diners. What stood out particularly in the restaurant was their decision not to over cram the floorspace with tables to maximise the amount of covers, but have chosen to serve the correct amount of diners to consistently deliver impeccable food and superb service. A very impressive selection was available and all of it was of the highest quality. I take my hat off to the whole team as you made a first night a very pleasant one.

I was today in this restaurant for my friend's 60th birthday. I will write this review regarding one outstanding dish only " the mushroom parfait". I was not expecting this at all, I thought it would be something crunchy, and a bit like a heavy paste but it was the opposite. It reminded a restaurant in Barcelona " El Bulli " in which you could experiment molecular gastronomy. This parfait was so light and so well balanced. One flavour was not domineering another flavour. It reminded me a restaurant in my town ( Paris ). Yes, yes, yes the other dishes were very good but this one was just from another level.

I had lunch at The Lake Isle again today. The food was a taste extravaganza! I had a tasty salad with herb dressing and pomegranate seeds to start. The main course was lentil and sweetcorn croquettes with crispy chickpeas, cauliflower hummus, and kale. It was perfection on a plate and all the flavours complemented each other beautifully. The chef is a genius! I could happily eat it every day! The dessert was strawberries and ice cream. Delicious!

The best restaurant in Rutland. Food is outstanding. Service is outstanding. The last time I experienced eating out with this quality was in a Michelin starred restaurant in France. All I can add is complements to the chefs and kitchen staff and the front of house staff. Made my day.

My husband and I have stayed at The Lake Isle more or less every year since around 2003. The reasons we keep returning year after year are listed below:-

The attention to detail is second to none here from the staff, the food, rooms ambience etc.

The investment that the owners have put into this business is incredible, particularly after the ravages of covid to the hospitality sector.

We have travelled all over the UK both on work and business, staying at various hotels along the way and without a shadow of a doubt The Lake Isle stands out far and above the rest.

The owners are so attentive, yet never overpowering, it is the most relaxing place to visit.

Finally we cannot believe that this establishment is no longer in the Michelin guide book and fully intend to convey our dismay to Michelin .

This is such a wonderful restaurant. It proved to be well beyond what we expected even though we’ve been a few times over the years and never once been disappointed. It’s very special indeed.

The food was superb and of the highest quality in both taste and presentation; the service would surely be impossible to improve upon; and the dining room is beautifully furnished and decorated as well as being unusually quiet, comfy and spacious.

Top notch.

The location is great, right in the centre close to various bars/pubs. I didn’t stay in the hotel so can not comment, 5 of us came for dinner.

The place itself is warm and cosy, although you do have to navigate down a rather dingy alleyway to get to it.

Once inside we were greeted and offered drinks by staff. Staff were somewhat attentive, we were probably waiting about 30 minutes while we had a drink before someone took our food order. Not a complaint, we could of asked sooner if we wanted in fairness.

We waited initially in the lounge area, seating was comfy, I would probably rearrange the seating though as we were quite a distance from each other the way it worked.

Once food was ready we were shown into the dining room. The tables were well spaced and we didn’t feel crowded at all. I would say too much random stuff on the table though, felt like a wall down the middle of the table.

I had the trout to start. Well made and playing was beautiful. It was genuinely tasty, slightly bland though.

I had Plaice for Main, butter sauce and mash were excellent, plaice well cooked. Again the whole thing just slightly bland, like it was missing seasoning essentially.

I did sample the Pork fillet and Duck mains which were excellent.

The plating of everything was beautiful. Worth a visit, not sure I would run back if I’m honest though.

Stayed one night in one of the mini cottages they have and ate in the restaurant.
Cottage was fabulous, with bedroom & shower room upstairs and with a bath and lounge downstairs. All clean and modern and we'll kept.
Restaurant food was top notch michelin grade fayre.
Breakfast was table service with a great choice of hot & cold food including full English or veg alternative.
Staff were friendly and very helpful and did everything they could to meet our needs.
All in all a super find and stunning value for money, highly recommended if you visit this part of the world.

This is a true gem of a restaurant. A first visit for four of us on a busy Saturday evening and we were all genuinely taken aback by the quality and presentation of the food. The service was first class also.
Truly brilliant, do not hesitate to book.
Thank you.

Probably one of the most delicious dinners I have had in ages, fantastic well thought out menu, beautifully presented and great service. If I lived closer I'd visit every week! Didn't rate the rooms as didn't stay but based on our experience I'm sure they are wonderful.

We had a fantastic meal here. The starter of panko breaded scallops was one of the best things I've eaten in a while and my husband's steak was excellent. Lovely wine selection too. We also stayed the night. It was very comfortable and quiet (although bed was a little firm for my liking, but that's personal preference). Lovely breakfast and very friendly staff. They were very accommodating of our 6 month old baby

Very impressive food and staff very attentative but didn't get in the way. Rooms nice but would have liked a king sized bed. Very clean and well stocked drink selection in room. Town is lovely we good selection of pubs and restaurants. Everything does seem to be closed on Sunday. Good base for a Rutland Water weekend.
