We took a nostalgic trip on a steam locomotive from Wansford Station. This is such a pretty looking station with a cafe, shop, museum and miniature railway. It offers plenty to interest both train lovers as well as families. The track is only 7 miles long but they run different events to entertain visitors. We had a fish and chip lunch on board which was really good and there was a buffet car serving hot and cold drinks and snacks. The train passes through a dark tunnel on its journey. The staff are all volunteers but are very jolly and have lots of knowledge of all the restoration work that goes on here which was interesting. If you ask nicely, they will allow you to have your photo taken on the engine, which is a nice touch. They also offer steam train driving experiences and special events for children. There is plenty of parking on site if you are thinking of visiting.

I went there for a volunteer day and I was very impressed with the whole story of the railway station and how many films and documentaries have been filmed there.
If you like trains, that is definitely a place you want to be.
Planning to take my family there for Christmas.

What a great day out. Great fun going up and down the line with the different engines pulling the carriages.

Very friendly staff and very knowledgeable.

Would recommend to everyone.

There are a lot of preserved railways I. Britain. This one has something most others don’t have. It runs trains from Europe. We had a Danish engine pulling coaches from Belgium!

A really lovely and lively place even if you just sit and watch the beautiful trains come and go. We arrived on a non passenger day as part of a long hike. Everything clean and shiny brass and we watched locos coming and going and saw how the points worked. A lovely cleaning lady explained all about when and where the trains go into Peterborough and the other way too.

If you are travelling down the A1, this is a good alternative to the service station scrums. Very short distance from the A1. Staffed by friendly volunteers, there is a café in the station where I had a good coffee and sausage bap. Clean toilets. You don’t need to pay admission to access the café. You can sit in the station cafe or get a take out drink to sit by the river. The money you pay will help support the railway.

A fantastic evening: so much fun, a great workout and the countryside is beautiful. We also got a tour of the signal box and I got to operate the level crossing! Adam and Harvey were both very knowledgeable and friendly and we got tours of two loco sheds and even saw the original Thomas the Tank engine : )

We reserved the minature railway at NVR wansford Saturday 3rd July 2024
It was brilliant brilliant brilliant- I can not recommend it enough : excellent value , joy of riding the trains and the experience of spending time with the really enthusiastic, friendly people . If that is not enough you can then see the original Thomas the Tank engine and hands on with steam trains and the associated engineering
We will be back -thank you

What a great experience! Steam engine ride for two hours with a fish and chip dinner served on board can't be bad. All the "staff" are unpaid volunteers. The time on the train is 2 hours. If you want a drink from the train bar go early to beat the queue. After that just sit back and enjoy. Very relaxed, happy to let you have pictures in the engine etc. Highly recommended.

We went to Nene Valley Railway a few years ago and went on the Flying Scotsmen. We went yesterday with David Manning Tours for Fish and chips on the train. I had Chicken and chips and it was absolutely delicious 😋.

Unfortunately the day we were there, there were no steam trains running. But the bacon and egg roll was wwell worth the visit.
20/4/24. Just pottering around. Back tomorrow for a ride on a train. Nice little charity shop. Cafe as good as ever. The railway shop didn't seem to have a great lot in it. There was a lovely black spaniel, Luna, keeping an eye on things.

Nene Valley Railway 🚂🚃🚃. Children loved the Christmas Special, Santa, Elves, etc.
The Santa Special Steam Train Journey was a great experience, with the afternoon tea on board. Lots of steam filling the air.
Most off this set up is reliant on volunteers, who keep this place alive, so although the tickets may sound a lot, the funds go towards the great expense of running the railway and restoration of everything from trains to museum artifacts.

Firstly I’d like to say, every staff/volunteer makes you feel number 1 there. 3 of us had the stone baked pizza & each of us said it was great & just the right size. The guy serving in the cafe was very polite & cleaned our table too. I’d recommend that place even if you don’t take a train ride.
I was surprised that this live wasn’t packed for tourists on a bank holiday Monday (maybe they all did the morning train, we did the last steam train). It was a beautiful 1959 polish steam engine. There seems to be a lovely change over every so often of steam engines.
This place is also dog friendly.
Thank you to everyone there. Recommend 100% & hopefully will return.
Please support this steam line.

We are on holiday and the four of us went on the train yesterday the whole experience was amazing. There was so many different engines and trucks to look at , plenty of volunteers with years of knowledge to answer your questions .
There is a lovely cafe at the station.
There is also a bar on the train so you can have a cold or hot drink.
We saw school children enjoying the day, and asking their teachers lot's of interesting questions .
All the volunteers were very friendly and helpful 🙂

We went on a trip to Peterborough that included a fish and chip tea on the way, the fish and chips were good the train journey behind a Diesel Electric Loco was really nice and restful.
The staff were great, helpful and chatty.
We had booked digital tickets over the internet, with reserved seating, but could find no one to scan the tickets, not a problem, they were finally checked by a very polite conductor and punched with a traditional ticket punch, new technology enhanced by that personal touch.
All in all a very enjoyable afternoon on a well run vintage railway with good staff and facilities.
The toilets in the station were nice and fresh and clean.

FORGET THE TRAINS! THE STAFF/VOLUNTEERS ARE THE MAIN ATTRACTION HERE!

Honestly - They were so friendly and funny too! My kids really enjoyed their jokes and chats while we were on board. It was such a lovely experience. 10/10!

Such a fun experience! The trains are nostalgic, Wansford & Ferry Meadows stations are the cutest thing ever, the journey is not long but with plenty of options to make a nice day out of it! Thoroughly enjoyed it!

John on thr train was amazing with my daughter and was a pleasure! The man and lady at the little model train set up were so lovely. Honestly one of the best places to take my little girl. She loves trains, they aren't really my thing but I really did like this place and will definitely be back. The people here are seriously lovely and make it an experience. Worth the money and reasonably priced. 10 out of 10. Coming back.

A beutifull location with a very deep proud history of the train station and trains. The facilities are very good with a nice cafe, very suprised for such a rural location. There is also places to sit by the river and have a picnic. On top of that a great area for rambling with public footpaths through the fields.
