Wigmore Castle was for me a unique & wonderful experience. A ruin - maintained in its wild, natural state providing sanctuary to local flora & fauna. The site may present challenges for some, particularly those less mobile, however if you are able to ascend the slopes it’s very much worth it.

Although much of the castle is overgrown and currently unable to access. The castle and history itself is magnificent. Its so beautiful and picturesque. There are information boards around the castle which show you what it would/could had looked liked. For what is viewable, it is stunning.

Park near the church and take a 10 minute walk, which is signposted to show the way

Managed by English Heritage but not very well. Very overgrown and you can't get around it al, sad really. But still worth a visit.

Wow! What a great atmospheric castle. We were all alone when we visited one cold January morning in '23 save for a fluffed up robin that followed us around. If you love history and know the story about Roger Mortimer, Isabella and kings Edward II and III, then this place is well worth a visit. The Oak nearby serves great chips and coffee if you need refreshments after.

Amazing views. Not much of the castle left (just a few singular walls) but it's been taken over by English heritage so we'll see what happens..... there's no parking, you have to park at the village hall and walk up. Not Good for anyone with walking difficulties, buy its free and on a nice day its worth a visit

We just moved here and absolutely love that this place is a 10 minute walk from home!
We haven't explored it fully yet but it's a nice loop walk and great views.

English Heritage have let this place remain a romantic ruin. Access is difficult but there's enough of interest to see to make the climb worthwhile. The village is stunning too, so well worth a small deviation.

Parking is at the village hall for free and then its a 15 to 20 minute walk up to the castle.
The castle itself is well worth a visit nice views from the top, with the only downside being the steps up to the keep are now gone due them being in a dangerous condition.

Very tumbledown castle set in the Marcher lands with lovely scenery. Park by the village hall and walk up through the churchyard.

Loved this Castle Ruins, it's English heritage site but free. Worth walking up to the very top.
It's not well looked after but I loved the over grown setting.
Some of the stairs have been blocked off to go straight up to the top, but if you walk around the left handside around the back you can climb up paths to access the top section of the castle. Well worth doing, definitely get the best views. It's very steep tracks up to do this. We had to use the trees to steady ourselves on the way up and down.

Its gorgeous it truly is, standing there looking at the view is breathtaking, the only thing is it needs a lot of maintenance it kind of looks forgotten about which is so sad x

There isn't an awful lot left of what used to be, historically, one of the most important castles in the welsh marches, although there are some pretty arches and imposing fragments remaining. The gatehouse, although ruined, is still a dramatic structure with a small archway, while elsewhere rise up eerie remains of what I presume was the keep, again substantial in size: the ruins, however sparse, do give a reminder of the former grandeur of the castle. The approach to the castle, taking you through an English country churchyard and its surrounding cottages, is beautiful, as are the walks that take you up to the top of the castle. The views from the top of the castle are what makes it such a pleasant and worthwhile visit, as they command a panoramic perspective of the surrounding Herefordshire countryside. We visited on a mostly clear winter's day, and having thoroughly enjoyed this step into the past, would thoroughly recommend it to others interested in our national history.

Charming ruins of an abandoned castle. A little bit of a walk away from where you can park a car, but well worth it when you get there. Parts of the walls remain, but I was disappointed to find I couldn't climb to the top - some parts are blocked off for safety reasons. A nice quiet place to go for a walk and have a picnic in nice weather. Some lovely views out to the local area.

Lovely ruin, great walk, is managed as an overgrown ruin which adds to its appeal, steps to the top of the keep closed off as they are rotting and too dangerous to use, wonderful views, good for walkers, history enthusiasts (boards giving info ) and photographers.

A hidden gem of a castle, left unkempt but access is easy. Great views and a fascinating history. The nearby church is well worth a visit too.

Believe it or not, Wigmore Castle belonged to my great grandfather from the 1300s, Roger Mortimer. I discovered this when my cousin had a family tree professionally researched. I am anxious to see it and retrace my roots. Its beautiful in all the photos.

Really atmospheric, stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Interesting information boards to tell you about its history. A bit of a steep climb in places.

I just want to thank you all for the pictures! I just found out this was my blood and to actually be able to see pictures is AMAZING! I need to plan a trip to come see in person! Why they decided to move to America, I'll never know.... 🤦
