The Works

I've been shopping in the Works on Queen Street, Cardiff for a few years. This past Wednesday I had a totally new shopping experience.

As I was browsing, I was looking at a £4 Clay play set for my son and wanted to look further as I intended to buy it.

As I opened the box, I heard a staff member rudely shouting at me in front of the other customers to not open the box. I had already observed other customers opening items and book sets. The staff member then came from behind the till as they were still serving a customer, yelling at me again to not open the box. I hadn't seen any signage instructing customers not to do so. After the shouting had finished, I paid for the item and mentioned to the staff member that I felt they had spoken to me rudely. The staff member continued in their aggressive tone, stating that in this shop, customers aren't allowed to open boxes. Only staff and managers should open boxes for customers.

Anyway, this seems to be a new rule for this shop, and I'm sure the staff will treat everyone equally. So when you go to this shop, please note you must wait for staff or the manager to assist you in opening boxes before paying.

I'd love to hear from everyone who reads this , to know their opinion. Is this expected behaviour in a shop? Or is this rule only for me?

Been a regular customer of The Works for as long as I can remember and never once had a bad experience. Staff are always smiling and helpful when you ask.

My recent visit to the Works was an absolute pleasure, thanks to the exceptionally friendly and helpful staff members. From the moment I stepped into the store, I was greeted with warmth and genuine smiles, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The Sunday staff members were attentive and eager to assist, going above and beyond to ensure an incredible shopping experience.

What impressed me the most was the store’s layout, which was incredibly organized and straightforward. It made finding everything I needed for my art project a breeze. Each section was clearly labeled, allowing me to navigate effortlessly and locate the materials I required. This level of thoughtfulness in the store’s design made my visit efficient and stress-free. The staff’s knowledge and willingness to offer guidance added to the overall positive experience. They patiently listened to my needs, provided valuable suggestions, and shared their expertise to help me find the perfect items. Their friendly demeanor and genuine interest in my project made me feel valued as a customer.

I visited the store a few weeks ago on a Sunday looking for a few things I could get my younger brother for an art project. I had the pleasure of bumping into Rugena who was so cordial and really went the extra mile by suggesting the best types of paints and materials I should go with. She was thorough in providing me detail on products, she spent the best part of 30 minutes just talking to me about ideas on how my brother can complete his project. I have never met anyone so creative!! If I could give 10 stars on her service in particular I would.

My experience at The Works was absolutely delightful, thanks to the incredibly helpful staff members, Regina, Jacob, and Tracy. From the moment I entered the store, they went above and beyond to assist me in finding everything I needed for my art piece. Their knowledge, expertise, and genuine enthusiasm made the process seamless and enjoyable. Regina’s guidance, Jacob’s creative insights, and Tracy’s attention to detail ensured that I found exactly what I was looking for. The Works truly caters to every artistic need, and with such remarkable staff, it’s an art enthusiast’s dream come true.

The book selection here has improved so much over the last few years, and the value stays amazing!

I went into the store to purchase a heart stopper book which I immediately found. The person at the till called Amanda was really kind and offered excellent customer service and greeted us in with a smile once I was ready to make my purchase Amanda had a nice little chat and continued to smile which made my day feel amazing. Amanda really deserves some appreciation as they make me want to return again.

Great prices on arts materials and books, can collect online orders here easily. Staff pleasant. Littlenhard to aways social distance easily down the long aisles but get there if everyone if thoughtful

Top choice for toys, books, crafts and other novelty gifts at super prices. Fast (even when there's a queue) and friendly service. Great Christmas stocking filler options.

I love going into the works when I need creative supplies, you can find lots of different things and always good prices.

The rewards card is worth it as well since you gain points when you spend and then you can use them in store.

I visited the store yesterday 19th October and was served by such a lovely young man whose name was Dominic I think. He was so polite and well mannered and nothing was too much trouble for him.

Great branch staff friendly and knowledgable was able to find what we were looking for and more. Lovely ability to get around and not trip over people unlike other branches that are cramped.
