Consistently excellent food.
The sweet potato, asparagus & mushroom lasagne is simply delicious! My partner said the burger was "the best he'd ever had", this is a bold statement as he's a fan of a good burger. We come here regularly, it's a pretty drive and nice village to visit.
Also had post wedding meal there recently and they were very very sweet.

Lovely warm atmosphere, greeted with a smile. All the staff are lovely. Food is outstanding, so tasty and rich. Top class service

Lovely central pub with great choice of food & drinks.
Haven't stayed in the rooms but heard they are just as great as the rest of the place.

What a absolute hidden gem this place is, stayed here for 3 nights whilst working away, first impressions were hmm here we go, but how wrong I was, the inside is very well presented and the staff are very friendly, the rooms were very spacious and exceptionally clean, the bathroom has a hand held shower over a tub big enough to do lengths in,very relaxing indeed, tv had good choice of popular streaming sites which also was nice...the bar had a good selection of beers ales and cider...now the food..OMG ,I have never been served burgers so huge before in any of the hotels I've stayed in, when I say huge I mean huge and so so good,the pics don't do them justice...the cod and chips were also excellent...but there is more..downstairs there is a health suit which comes in with the price of the stay,it has a sauna,steam room and heated loungers to relax on after coming out of your chosen room...just wow....I very much hope I get to stay here again...EXCELLENT 😀

Had a family meal here and it was blooming delicious! Great pub grub and friendly service, I cannot wait to return. We all had something different and we all started with food envy but once we started eating we were all more than content. The car ride home was full of compliments for the food. Thank you! I wish I could recommend one particular dish but they were all great.

Only negative was the cleanliness of the drinking glasses, some were slightly marked. Don’t let that put you off!

Absolutely stunning food!!! I had the chicken breast with dauphinoise potato and creamy cheddar cheese sauce. It was honestly one of the best meals I've ever had! Wish I'd taken a photo!🙄 My husband had the cheeseburger and thought the bread was amazing, as was the burger. We are so lucky that this fabulous restaurant/ hotel is just a few miles away from our house, we shall return....soon!!!!

Had an absolutely fabulous wedding at the Lion last weekend. Marc & the team put us at ease with their professionalism from start to finish. The food was delicious, the space looked amazing and the room left us with a peaceful night's sleep and great bathroom facilities. No hidden "wedding fees", just good, honest service with a true Blaenavon welcome. Would highly recommend. Thank you so much!

We've been wanting to eat here for ages, and finally managed it for Mother In Laws 91st Birthday 🎂 We had a fabulous Sunday lunch, the food was really spot on, plenty of it and even better the room was warm! With a lovely fire crackling away. MIL really enjoyed it which is saying something as she is the fussiest eater over 6 that I've ever known!! The serving staff were lovely and very attentive even though the restaurant was full. Now we've actually been here we will be back soon!! Thank You.

A lovely little venue for my brothers wedding, staff were super friendly and the food very tasty and service very quick. The rooms were clean and pleasant and parking was simple and accessible. Worth a visit if in Blaenavon.

Great pub with a fantastic atmosphere
We managed to book a Sunday lunch recently and without doubt the best value for money roast we have experienced for some time

Stayed on business, the en suite double room was compact but had everything I needed including a small desk. Most importantly the staff were incredibly friendly and the food was amazing both in selection and quality. The included breakfast was fantastic. Very good selection of drinks including some very nice local options. Very pleasant short drive from here to Ebbw Vale where I was working, but a far superior experience at the Lion to the chain hotels located there.

My wife and I have just had a wonderful night at the Lion. All staff from the barman to the waitresses were an asset to the hotel and to them i would love to give our thanks.

Our room was clean and perfectly adequate with a beautiful bathroom.
Our evening meal was absaloutley fabulous with first class ingredients and cooked to perfection and full welsh breakfast was huge and delicious in their wonderful little restaurant.

It was the hottest day of the year and the room was very warm and we had to have the window open where there was some shouting and noise throughout the night from late night/morning revellers, but this definitely no fault of the hotel.

Fantastic food, wonderful atmosphere, comfy bed, friendly and helpful staff. Made our special weekend away perfect. Definitely staying here again in the future. Best burger I've ever eaten!! Thank you.

The Lion offered friendly hospitality in the pub where we met many local people over drinks. Our room was first class all the way -- comfortable with great beds and super amenities. The dinner menu was classy and the food was delicious. Grab your reservation now!

Lovely place, easy to find with easy local parking. Food was very nice, sharing platter was more than enough for two with a range of items on. Staff lovely and attentive also. Recommended and will be visiting again.

I really enjoyed it. Staff very helpful, room clean and just what I needed and great walk in shower. The food was EXCELLENT. Steak for dinner was superb and my breakfast the next day was the tastiest I've ever had. Thank you

Good food, service with a smile, but didn't hover, so that's a good thing. Nice setting, lively warm log fire, good size tables for our party of 10. Had 3 course Christmas meal. No one complained, food was lovely and fair amount, something to suit most. We did miss the stuffing though. Don't know why, because everything else was available, cranberry sauce, horseradish, mint, etc. No stuffing. Ah well, next year, maybe. Would recommend, would go again happily.

Really nice hotel, amazing food both for breakfast and evening meal.
Only downside was the proximity of rooms to each other, meaning a little too much noise if the neighbours were talkative.
