Co-op Food - East Street - Rhayader

As Co-op’s go this was a very good one. I didn’t see any issues with anything their and the service was efficient and friendly. They had a small choice of things but for a small top up shop it had most of what I needed.

In reference to a recent review, there is a security announcement made over the in-store radio system here. Asking the staff about it, I found out that this announcement is made every twenty minutes on the dot - on the hour and then at twenty past and twenty to. This happens throughout the day and is precisely timed (it's how the staff know when to open and close the store as it is exactly on the hour!). Any suggestion that the announcement can be over-ridden in some way or selectively played by a staff member, just because they don't like the look of any particular customer entering the store, is ridiculous. I lose "patience" with such ideas very quickly. You will hear this announcement made every twenty minutes regardless of who is in the store. To suggest anyone is targeted by it (particularly because of the colour of their skin) says more about the person making the suggestion than it does about the fabulous staff in this lovely store... The suggestion is deeply offensive to the staff here and completely false. As for the store itself, I am always amazed at how much they squeeze into such a small space! It is obviously very well run and has a lovely atmosphere with very friendly, exceptionally helpful staff.

Good local shop had everything we needed for our stay. Even had a good range of gluten free. I used this store many times during our 4 night stay. I couldn’t do a weekly shop there but great place to top up.

Nice place lots of products on offer hot drinks sandwiches etc

Got to say the lad from Newcastle that works there is a absolute asset to the co-op foundation really nice bloke I worked on a road closure and he was polite friendly when we went in the shop absolute smashing guy 💯

Have called in here everyday for a week. Extremely convenient & all the basics, plus a few treats. Helpful staff with all you need.

Lovely little shop, clean and well stocked. Self scans work a treat too!

I visited the store whilst in the area. Has a good selection of the usual items of food, soft drinks, alcohol, chilled and frozen, bakery etc. Only niggle was with just how compacted the store is which makes the isles very narrow and difficult to pass other customers. However, it is what it is a worth a visit if you need any household goods.

First time in Rhayader, arrived late, nice modern store got what we needed, lovely man helped us.

Nice clean store, friendly helpful staff all covid safety in place and some great deals

*Very* compact store inside old HSBC bank. Difficult to navigate aisles with a pushchair, or if staff are filling shelves. Staff are friendly and there are self service tills too. Limited range because of size, but still better than Spar. Good for a quick visit for an evening meal or forgotten ingredient but you would struggle to do a weekly shop here.

It's a shop. Good for the local community no doubt. Only popped in for one item.

Visited the shop today on our way to the Elan Valley Reservoir. I was very disappointed that when myself, my husband and kids walked in they put out a security announcement and warning of how the shop is guarded by cctv. I thought they did it for everyone who walks in but they didn't we stayed in the shop shopping for over 30mins but didn't hear the announcement again. Many people walked in and out but no announcement was made. I felt like someone pressed a button to warn us just because we are a black family. Really played in my head that some people still feels that way about other people. I know these places don't see a lot of black people but we love visit Wales it's a beautiful country and they made me feel discriminated against it kind of eclipsed some of the helpful staff's efforts.

Staff are rude and ignorant treating me more like an uninvited shopper than welcome customer, management seriously need to sort out staff moral etc! The place has drastically gone downhill since it opened, never anything in stock or on the shelves, will be shopping elsewhere from now on
