A great successor to the much-loved Ken and Mala local shop. They've now rearranged shelves, improved the lighting and relocated the checkout place. There is even an automatic sliding door to usher you in and out from metres away either side of it! The new owners are younger, attired sleeker and appear suave. However, like Ken, Mala and Douglas, they are warm, good-natured, friendly and serve you with a smile. I am warming to them (still pining for Ken, Mala & Doug), and genuinely hope that they stay the course and pass the test of time. Best wishes for good success dear grocers.

What excellent service at this shop! On several occasions the owner has gone out of his way to make sure we get what we wanted and even delivered an item to us by hand. Really above and beyond what you might normally expect from a local shop. Thank you!

This has become a store owned by Hardings up the street! Got everything you need, great layout for wheelchair users and prams. Staff are so nice.

Ken’s is the perfect neighbourhood supermarket and a local institution. It is a challenge to come up with any food stuff that they don’t stock. The ale collection is astounding. Prices are competitive. The previous reviewers must have been in the wrong shop. All the locals shop there. You always bump into someone you know.

As builders who work all over the UK, we have been to many chip shops and this had been by far one of the better ones.
The sausages were brilliant and tasty
And the chips were fuffly on the inside and crisp on the outside. Would defo recommend 👌

A little Alladins cave of a wide variety of foods, spices, excellent wine selection, and beer, plus a great N/A beer selection.

All that glitters is not gold! The cost of living crisis is real.
There are two reasons for this critical review.
1 - LONDIS is more expensive than MnS or Waitrose! in my experience.
2 - the people working here seem to really dislike serving certain men.

First the prices;
For example, their standard milk is the same price per litre as MnS's organic milk! and around 20% more than MnS standard milk!
To buy real dairy cream here is astonishingly pricey - see my photo - I bought 600ml from MnS for the same money.
And I was surprised to find just how misleading those yellow labels ( that say how much an item should cost) are: I was staggered at the difference in price of a small jar of Kenco Instant Coffee when I compared it with the supermarkets.
In the recent past, I would pop into Londis whenever I was caught short for essentials, I even did mini shops here for cereal, pasta, fruit etc - but when I realised how expensive this shop is, I kid you not, in the past six months I have saved hundreds of pounds by shopping smarter at the supermarkets; I, for one, just can't afford to pay more for items that cost less just around the corner; can you?
Even with delivery costs, I've found it's cheaper to order online from Tesco, Sainsbury's or even Ocado, and have my groceries delivered, than it is to shop at this Londis store.

Now, the staff:

The Londis staff, particularly the young men, seem to have a problem serving particular men, in my direct experience - and because of my negative experiences I now regularly use the Ivydale corner shop instead; it takes a real emergency for me to pop in here nowadays.
I do miss Ken, the previous owner of this shop - I never witnessed that behaviour from him.

In short: very expensive! Prejudiced staff! Avoid!
The folk across the road are just nicer, in my experience (though just as pricey - don't get me started on the cost of a Wall's Feast 😂)

The staff talk too much to each other and on the phone and ignore their customers. I have a disability and two members of staff watched me struggle to carry milk to my mobility scooter while carrying on their conversation. One gentleman even standing in my way in the doorway! Today, I had to interrupt the guy on the counter's telephone conversation to ask for rizla, only to be greeted with a dirty look and "what do you want?" in a rude tone. Please stop ignoring your customers and get off the phone when you're working. It's not fair and has triggered my mental health issues. The customer comes first.

DO NOT SHOP HERE!

The staff are rude. They are charging 5p for carrier bags when they aren't obliged to by law. They sell out of date products sometimes by over 6 months. I would never recommend this shop to my worst enemies. I went in there the other day and the rude shop keeper told me to leave the shop as it's currently only 1 at a time allowed in even though the advice is 2 at a time. I told him that there was no sign to say this but he kept being rude. I would report this rude shop selling out of date products to trading standards if I knew how so they could shut it down.

DO NOT SHOP HERE!

Rude staff. Out of date products and over pricing. I do not recommend.
