We met Brandi and her husband while visiting. Her husband makes jewelry, cutting boards and so much more! Absolutely beautiful jewelry! Excellent hand work! Make sure to stop when on the island!

If you're visiting Roatan by ship, definitely visit Mr. Levy in his art shop. It's a short 5 min walk outside of the pier when you turn right. My friend and I were greeted by Yourgin with nothing but kindess and a passion for his trade and the beautiful island he calls home. His jewelry is masterfully crafted and cultivated by him personally. I fell in love with an Island Jade piece and my friend chose a Mountain Jade necklace. In contrast to other shops close to the tourist area, you'll find no high pressure sales here, but rather good vibes and information about the Island not advertised in a pamphlet. We left the shop with a piece of Roatan we keep close to our hearts! We plan to visit again.

Loved this shop, and brought a couple of jewelry pieces home with me. The artist was delightful to talk to, and we learned a lot about the process of making beautiful jewelry from local stones, wood, and nuts. It's totally worth the effort to leave the gated area around the cruise port, and it's really close by. There's also a little mission shop across the street with locally made handicrafts for sale, so be sure to stop there too while you're out and about.

We have not been there in years, but this was a must stop on a return NCL cruise, it was American Thanksgiving and it has been raining for what seemed like weeks there. I just remember the stories the owner was telling us about the loss of chickens due to all of the rain. I believe we spent more money here then other place along our trip. My wife loves all of the hand made jewelry, she wears pieces all of the time. Can't wait to come back....

If nothing else makes your stop on Roatan worthwhile, this delightful little shop, only a five-minute walk up the street from your cruise ship, will. Rare is it to find the resident artist/owner, Yourgin Levy, not only present but pleased to take the time to discuss himself and his craft with you. And he excels at his craft, fashioning simple jewelry and other items from native stone and wood, each piece original and one-of-a-kind. Don't be afraid to run past the gauntlet of tour sellers and taxi hawkers and see the real Roatan. Prices just outside the port are ridiculously low, and the natives are friendly and eager to meet you.

Family run business selling art prices created by that same family. Our experience here was educational and edifying. Jurgen gave is a geology lesson, an intro to some history and a primer on local wildlife and we left with well priced jewelry and beautiful and functional wooden kitchen tools. Highly recommend.

When you are looking for places to shop while you are in another country, you want to find a place you can trust. This is THAT place. There is a story behind every piece of art/jewelry and a wonderful family working hard at their trade. Stop, shop, and buy! TRUST ME!

Roatan Island Art is a small craft shop located on the “main drag” of Roatan, about 200 yards from the cruise terminal. I found it on Google Maps and am glad I did, because it isn’t listed on the cruise line’s “Port and Shopping Map.” But it should be! Yeah, you have to walk past all of the “ship recommended” shops and actually leave the port area. Once you say “no, thank you!” to 300 taxi drivers wanting to take you on an island tour, you get to a part of the street with a number of restaurants and the straw market. Directly across the street from the straw market in a colorful and whimsically designed shop is Island Art.

Everything in the store is sourced and hand-crafted by Yourgin Levy, his wife and sons. Yourgin is a native Honduran and is intimately familiar with the indigenous wood, stone, shells and other materials he uses in his work. He speaks passionately about his island, his crafts and his family, and told us that he got his start selling his jewelry on the beach. With encouragement from his wife, family and others he worked hard to get a storefront to sell his goods. The items in the shop and the shop itself reflect the passion he has for his work and his island.

Whatever you choose to do on Roatan – and you should do something because it is beautiful – have your driver drop you off at Roatan Island Art. Or just walk there from the ship. And when you get there, take the time to talk with Yourgin and experience the passion and love he has for the island of Roatan and for Honduras. I’ve written this because in my own heart I feel strongly that this man and his shop deserve the publicity. Go there!

SKIP THE CRUISE SHIP MALL!

We came in on a cruise, but we don't like mass produced, cheesey, souvenirs that were probably made in China and then someone wrote "Roatan" on it and tries to pass it off as some great momento of your trip here.

So we made the very short walk out of the cruise terminal mall containing those items and found this wonderful little shop.

The owner Yourgin and his family hand craft beautiful pieces of art from local materials (wood, stone, sea glass, coconuts, shells, etc), and sell them at extremely reasonable prices at this shop. Yourgin is super friendly and easy going, so we enjoyed a nice conversation with him and learned a bit about Roatan/Honduras too.

I highly recommend that you visit here for some amazing finds.
