Spent a week with a small group of friends at Upachaya. Had an absolute blast! The owner Jeff and his wife were awesome, the staff was incredible, and the rooms were excellent! The guides that took us out for bonefish and permit were great! They clearly know their fishery extremely well! We had very tough conditions and they still managed to consistently find fish! Highly recommend! Hope I get a chance to go back sometime soon!

Beatiful scenery and water estuary. Had a great time with a small group of friends. Rooms were nice and comfortable. Fly fished hard for Bonefish, Permit, and Tarpon, one of the lucky places to work on your Grand Slam. Received intro to diving and that is another amazing adventure that you can experience here.

Tucked away on the beautiful island of Routan, this wonderful resort has exactly the right feel and amenities for an incredible getaway. I spent a few days at Upachaya with some friends and totally enjoyed every moment. The flyfishing was incredible and the diving was equally the same. The accommodations were peaceful and comfortable. The resort staff was professional and attentive to our needs. Highly recommend visiting Routan and staying at Upachaya Resort.

Every now and then you find a gem and meet amazing people. A small resort in Honduras, a great home cooked meal and the best snorkel spots to view is what you will receive on your visit. This is not your typical large 20+ person's group, this is personal and anyone who knows wildlife (I am a wildlife photographer) knows that you will see and experience more in nature, with less people present. The owner made us feel at home and is a very inspirational person. I would not hesitate to visit again!
On our Snorkel we saw, starfish, sand dollars, eels, sting rays, puffer fish, needle fish, the list goes on...

My family and I did a cruise last year that made a stop at Roatan.
We booked our snorkelling trip at the Upachaya and had a great stay.
Barbara the owner was awesome and took good care of everyone and shared a lot of neat info about the island and her place.
The guides on the snorkelling trip were great and they took the time for every snorkeller and showed us some neat stuff..thanks guys.
Thanks,
Peter and Joan

Totally serene and a beautiful place to relax. The tropical scenery is colorful and energizing. I had a great stay at the resort hosted by the owner Barb. I also got to do some yoga, kayaking, and snorkeling. Wonderful location and would highly recommend it, particularly if you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of your regular routine.

My husband and I were on a cruise and I decided I did not want to go through the ship for snorkeling. I googled and found this place. They had a driver there waiting for us and took us to this beautiful paradise. The owner Barb was waiting for us as we drove up. Snorking was amazing along with lunch. Hospitality was amazing and we definitely will be back. Thanks Barb.

This was a last minute stay. Not planned. Not only is she a gracious person. Barb is awesome.
She made sure I had dinner. We went to the restaurant she owns on the Island.
Yes’ one very Versatile lady. The food is amazing. The music was great. She took care and called her own person a cab driver she knew personally to take me back. Definitely when they reopen I will be back

Best snorkeling I have ever experienced (and I've been to a number of locations around Caribbean and SE US). Very calm, very private cove without a lot of bleached choral. Definitely on the go-back list.

Visited Upachaya during June 2014. Upachaya is that that it says that it is. Upachaya is a wonderful excursion.

After getting off cruise ship, there is an uphill walk to a van with a courteous driver who is bilingual. Then we were driven through village parts of Roatan to a jungle area called Upachaya. We were given an explanation of the island culture and history. Snorkling equipment was provided. The staff were curteous and cared if we were safe and secure. We kayaked through pristine waters with Mangrove trees to a large cove. The underwater beauty was breath-taking. I was too out of shape for this trip. Kayaking back was difficult. I recommend spending cruise days getting physically prepared for Upachaya if you are out of shape. Thank goodness I had started working out on the ship. After returning, we were fed a delicious vegetarian meal. We had a choice of sodas or beer. Water was also available. We were given a tour through the hotel style rooms. They were spotlessly clean and well decorated island style. I hope to return to Upachaya one day and stay for a while. Some families had elementary aged children who seemed to enjoy the snorkling.

Tips- I do not recommend the shore excursion for people who are not physically fit, have mobility problems (because of the many stairs) or very young children/infants.

Wear lots of sunscreen. Four months later, my skin is still deeply burned.

Take bug spray. This is the jungle and there are mosquitoes that have a weird sting.

Wear good walking shoes.

Upachaya is an excellent retreat setting. Thank you Upachaya for a pleasant experience.

Many thanks to Upachaya for an educational and healing experience.

Upachaya!! Where to start about this incredible place...

First and foremost, Barbara is the most gracious, accommodating and patient owner/manager you could ask for. The customer service provided at Upachaya is fantastic. All of her recommendations for activities on the island were exactly as described and over delivered.

Upachaya is a jungle experience, in the best way. If you are looking for privacy and taste of the "real" Roatan, then this place is for you. My wife and I spent five nights at Upachaya that included delicious fresh fish, wonderful breakfasts, plenty of Salva Vida and of course kayaking, yoga and snorkeling.

I would highly recommend staying at Upachaya.

Thanks again Barb!!
