The Knin Fortress is an absolute must if in the area. The size of it is unmatched. Nestled on a hill overlooking the city and Dinara, Croatias tallest mountain. I somehow entered for free. No one was at the ticket booth when I visited on a Monday afternoon in February. So I just walked around. It's undergoing extensive renovations in just about the entire place, so be prepared for construction material. The best part are the views offered overlooking the city and nature. Can park relatively close, but its somewhat difficult to turn around. Otherwise it's about a 15 minute walk up the somewhat steep street.

Great fort with awesome views of the surroundings! The fort is being renovated, but still worth the 6 euro entry. Make sure to catch the room with the history of the Serbian War on Croatia. Enlightening! At the end of the tour, grab a beer at the restaurant and soak in the history!

Nestled atop the rugged cliffs like a proud sentinel of history, Knin Fortress stands as a testament to the passage of time and the resilience of Croats. Imagine stepping into a time machine that transports you to the medieval ages, where the air is thick with tales of valiant knights, daring sieges, and whispered secrets. The moment you ascend the ancient stone steps and lay your eyes on the panoramic view that unfurls before you, it's as if the mountains and valleys themselves have decided to reveal their splendor only to those who venture to this enchanting fortress.

The sight that greets you is nothing short of breathtaking – a magnificent tapestry of emerald valleys, cradled by majestic mountains, as far as the eye can see. With every breeze, the tales of centuries past seem to come alive, resonating with the heartbeat of generations that have walked these very paths. The stones beneath your feet hold stories of bravery and camaraderie, as they witnessed both the triumphs and tribulations of a bygone era.

But Knin Fortress is not just a relic of the past; it's a living, breathing testament to the resilience of a community that has weathered storms and emerged stronger. Its recent history intertwines with a celebration that echoes through the ages – the Day of Victory over Serbian and Yugoslav Army. As you stand within the fortress walls, you can almost hear the echoes of jubilation as the city reclaimed its freedom. The spirit of the true fighters who liberated the city is palpable, a reminder that history isn't merely confined to textbooks – it's etched into the very stones around you.

And yet, even as we celebrate this victory, it's a stark reminder that not all battles are confined to the pages of history. The stance of government officials barring true fighters from entering the city they liberated is a testament to the complexities of our times. It's a call to remember that honoring our veterans and their sacrifices isn't just about words; it's about actions that reflect the spirit of gratitude we hold in our hearts.

Speaking of veterans, let's raise a glass to the brave souls who have stood unwaveringly for the ideals they hold dear. Their valor and sacrifice continue to inspire us, reminding us that the true heroes are not just those in capes, but those who stand tall in the face of adversity for a cause greater than themselves.

And when you're ready to step away from the historical echoes and embrace the beauty of nature, nearby gems like Krka Waterfall beckon with open arms. The symphony of rushing waters, the lush greenery, and the vibrant energy of the falls offer a stark contrast to the fortress's stoic grandeur. It's a reminder that even within the most ancient of landscapes, life flourishes and evolves.

So, as you stand at the Knin Fortress, let your spirit soak in the stories, the victories, and the resilience that have shaped this land. And as you venture forth, remember that every step you take is a continuation of the legacy that began here – a legacy of strength, unity, and the unwavering spirit of humanity.

This is one of the best fortress museums I've been to on our 7 years fulltime travel. Sadly not all the museums were open although I had the place to myself and I wasn't charged. This is a kids' and historian's paradise. I thorough enjoyed my visit which was a complete surprise.

The castle is worth the visit, it's not very different from any other castle/fort in the region but it has some very nice exhibitions, one about the homeland war, and an other one that is maybe not as easy to find (it's on the complete left from you when you enter) about the archeologic finds, on the site, and downstairs of that one, about the region in the 20th century, crazy to see how people still lived here 50 years ago. Really traditional clothing, housing, ... the picture are impresive.

This is apparently the largest and best preserved fortress in Central Europe and definitely worthwhile seeing. Access by car is easy and walking around on the site is pleasant. Tip for parking: it may look like a one way to the top but it's not. We were fortunate to park almost next to the front gate.

The entrance fee is very reasonable (30 Kona/person) and the staff was courteous and helpful. However, bring cash as they don't take credit cards.

Perhaps the best thing is that there's nobody there. We virtually had the place to ourselves. Quite a contrast to Dubrovnik's old town. This is explained by the fact that it's a bit out of the way.

On site there are 3 museums (one of which was closed during our visit). We found the war museum informative on the Serbian aggression.

Huge fortress. The outer walls are mostly still intact while the inner court is in some parts preserved as a ruin. Several exhibition galleries with a few artifacts from various time periods on site.

The Knin fortress is really worth while visiting. The view on the Dinara mountains, the valleys with rivers, for kilometres and kilometres just amazing vistas. Very important fortress as it finally fell in our independence struggle into Croat hands. The restaurant in the fortress takes full advyntage of the beautiful location. Have a homemade, cool lemonade (nice big glass) and a strong espresso.

1000 years old fortress still in a good shape, stunning views 360 degrees, it will take around an hour to go around and you will be surprice how beautiful this place is turning every corner or entering every tunnel. We even seen a bat from 1 meter away in one of the caves. Food was good and chepest in croatia so far. Look at the pictures but they will not show full beauty of this place. Entry 30 kuna, parking free, meals average 30 kuna. Highly recomended

The fortess is a spectacular place. It is really huge (2nd largest in Europe).
It takes around 2-3 hours to go around and it absolutely worth the ticket price. //It's possible to enter for free after the cashier booth closes (around 6pm) but make sure you get out before darkness...//

Sturdy shoes like boots are recommended.
There is a very informative exhibition within the fortess which helps to know more about Knin and it's history.

After a good hike in the fortess don't miss the restaurant! It is next to the main entrance. The prices are super low compared to the seaside towns and the food is just amazing! Look for the Daily dishes meals(they have only two).

Great fortress in nice condition. I recommend visiting this place. We had a bit of rainy weather. We had coffee in the restaurant on the fortress and the children had cocoa.

30 kuna or aprox 4,5 EUR for a ticket. Only one restaurant on the whole fortress so bring some water with you. The complete sightseeing can last about two hours

Knin Fortress is a must see if you're in the area, and not only.

The fortress might not look that imposing from the base of the cliff, but that changes inside. Knin is a large fortress, that has one old castle fort, a few houses and a defensive fort.

A big part of it is renovated. It contains 3 small exhibitions, 2 about recent Serbo-Croatian war and one about archeological artefacts found at site. Unfortunately most of the text is not translated into english. Also for some reason, same as Klis, little is told about the fortress medieval history

The view is nice, but nothing fancy, yet you're probabily here for the fortress anyway :)

The entry fee is only 30kn and the parking looks to be free, which is great.

There is also a restaurant if you're looking for a drink or meal
