The Great Waterfall is the highest and most impressive of the many stunning waterfalls in this Unesco world heritage site. The scale is such that the best photographs are taken from a distance. It's located in the Lower Lakes section of the park (in the north and accessed via park entrance 1. You'll definitely want to arrive early to beat the crowds. A lot of the tour buses from Split and Zagreb arrive around 10am so the entrance and ticket line gets extremely busy. By 2pm they are all leaving the park.
A couple of hundred meters after entering the park you'll get great views of the waterfall from the elevated viewpoint position which is perfect for those with mobility restrictions. To get closer will require walking down the path and across a few bridges and takes about 15-30 minutes to reach the foot of the falls.
May and early June are the best times to visit with less crowds (but still busy) and good water volumes after the spring snow melt

Who would have thought that this location would be so charming in the silence of the winter?

I think visiting this place in December was the finest choice, even though it was an impromptu trip..

So serene, a bit icy..
and how pleasant it was to meet other incredibly kind people who had travelled from all over the world to be there at this strange hour :)

The view on this place was amazing.
Its not for free, but its not so expensive around 24eur per person.
The walk around all lakes and see beautiful waterfalls takes 4-5h depending which route you take as we took C one, but when you take train ride back down, dont go back to Entrance -1 but climb out at Entrance-2 and take path K. You can walk just beside water and get a glimp at beautiful blue water.
After some time, you will see roads split, you will need to take a climb up hill to TC-1 Stop and you can see some lakes from top.
Overall everything was trully amazing. I will never forget this experience.

It,s a place everyone should put on a bucket list. Photos can't show its true beauty and size. Countless waterfalls and lakes you can admire walking on wooden paths build directly on the lakes!! This amazing wonder of nature surely deserves to be on UNESCO list.

All in one, pure nature, wild animal life, and unforgettable experience. Excellent walking and hiking paths all across the park. Resting spots for coffee or small food breaks are also located inside the park area. Recommend at least 5 hours of stay to view and enjoy most of it, preferably in the springtime when it's not too crowded.

We were there in September, hoping for good weather but it wasn't the case, too bad.
The silver line being that the place wasn't overcrowded as it seems to be usually (at least according to the many reviews).
This is an impressive waterfall, great as its names indicates (close to 90m height) and definitely a highlight of this famous park.

Stunningly beautiful place. At the info points they will tell you the route, taking into account the time you can spend there. There is transport between the points, which is included in the entrance price (bus and boat)

Veliki Slap at Plitvice Lakes is a truly remarkable waterfall. Surprisingly, the best vantage point to admire its beauty is actually outside the national park. The view from this spot allows you to truly appreciate the grandeur of the waterfall. For an even more enchanting experience, I recommend visiting early in the morning before the crowds arrive. The tranquility and lack of rush enhance the magic of the place. Veliki Slap is a natural wonder that leaves you in awe, and with the right timing and perspective, it becomes an unforgettable memory that captures the essence of Plitvice Lakes' beauty.

Great memory when I went on a school trip.
Unfortunately we had only rain during all our visit, However, it was magnificent.
I recommend doing it if you visit Croatia!

Well this is certainly a beautiful place but watch out for the tourist numbers. I congratulate those that have marketed Plitvica and have made a must see for many tourists ‘doing’ Croatia. The lakes, waterfalls and protected woodlands are really wonderful. But, it’s just my opinion that it is a little overrated. Certainly with the sheer numbers of visitors in the summer the experience may disappoint. Much better to risk it in May or September. Of course I am not speaking here to the real nature lovers who i am sure could spend days in the Park having immense fun. But if you are a tourist like me! And want just to see it then it may be better actually to give it a miss and spend time in Croatia where there are not tons of people and there’s a different type of natural beauty for example the northern part of the coast and the many ‘white’ islands

Pretty awesome place. However, it is a tourist attraction. Therefore, very crowdy. Still, a place to go. Soecially during hot days, cause it is 3 degrees colder down at the waterfalls.

Must see! Be sure to wear shoes with good grip and not be worried to get a bit wet. You can download the app to follow the routes. Would suggest to take the boat to see the other levels and waterfalls. Start at entrance 1.

Absolutely stunning. Certain times it can be crowded. Be prepared to walk up and down stairs. Worth every minute.

A gorgeous national park. The water is so beautiful and the falls are stunning. Really nice walking trails, well sign posted and the routes are well set up. It gets a bit busy at points but otherwise it's a lovely experience.

Well worth the short hike if you don't have time to see the whole park. Only spent an hour or so here but the waterfall is beautiful.

What an amazing day. 79yr old Baka and 3yr old survived! 3yr old was too many kms so we had to carry her a fair amount but 6yr old nailed it. Lots of steps up and down. Worked out about 13kms. Glad we booked early as too many people by the middle of the day when we were trecking out. We started at Gate 2 and did the buses (all inclusive) and then took the boat to find the big waterfall. Take some snacks to keep kids going and not much water needed as it stayed cold the whole time, we were expecting hot at some point. Wear thin layers so you can take off if you get too hot but I have to say none of us did! Was one of the main highlights of our 5 weeks in Croatia!

Absolutely stunning. Plitvice lakes are unlike any park I have visited. The fusion of foliage and water is stunning. This is truly a park worth adding to your trip if you are visiting Croatia.

Impressive waterfall right at the entrance of the national park. If you start your hike here, you have the opportunity to visit the waterfall twice. The viewpoint and the way there is understandably very crowded.
