Going there with a walking-tour group from Jogja Good Guide. Nice choice of place to start your lesson about the history of Yogyakarta.

In order to go inside the grave, you have to wear a traditional outfit, they rent it, but if you don't want to, you can just stroll around the complex.

A Great historical place that I've had ever visited through out the years. It located in the southern side of the city, nearby the traditional market. Most of people are known this area as "Kotagede" in bhaasa or Big City in English. I do really understand why should this place has its name. It's truly a big city with some markets, royal cemetery, big mosque & massive roundabout in the cornerstone. The cemetery.is part of mosque actually. It has lovely mixed architectural shapes through Islamic era & Hindi's perspective. No cover charge when entering this site, just pay for motor/car parking. But pls do no yelling and any other disturbing noise when we're here.

This is a treasure. A bit hard to find but worth the search. Use Google map to find this place. There are certain rules to enter. You will be asked to wear batik fabric. Please go there with a guide and ask as many questions as possible. Including those myth stories. Go walk around the area once you finished and you will find lots of old building that artistic and historical at the same time. The local people will greet you with smiles.

If you like visiting historical sites, you are suitable for a trip to "Makan Raja-Raja Mataram Kotagede".

There is no entrance fee to enter this area. The location is mixed with the neighborhood, and there are several alleys of "Kampung Alun-Alun" which are indeed used as tourist attractions.

For foreign tourists, this place has been provided with information boards in English, so you can still learn the history and culture related to this location.

The cemetry of Mataram 1st King, Panembahan Senopati. A unique historical place in the heart of Kota Gede, one of most beautiful village in Jogja. The local residents are very welcome and friendly. You can take a lot of photo in here, but please be polite and behave :)

this is a funeral settlement for Mataram Kings and his family. Located near the heart of Yogyakarta town. You'll figure out the magnificent architect from the Islamic Mataram Kingdom, not to mention if you're lucky enough, you'll meet the "abdi dalem" who can tell you everything about the place, as I have once experienced

Interesting. Mixed between Islam and Java (Hindu Budha) cultures. Kejawen. I saw groups of people using Islam (arabic) prayer with incense stick. Very interesting

Nice and quiet place. Please pay attention if you want to enter the graves since you need to come on specific day and wears Javanese traditional clothes.

Overall this place is best for you even you only want to visit for taking pictures with iconic architecture of Majapahit era

A cemetery of Sultan of Mataram, the first king of Mataram Kingdom in 17th century. There is a place for the princess and restricted for ladies. The architecture is totally unique, it is the real Mataram architecture with real Mataram ambience.
A great spot for a photoshoot and learn about Mataram History, ask the local people and abdi dalem who guard this place, and you will get a lot of valuable information.

It is the location of the cemetery of Mataram King, Panembahan Senopati, the first king of the kingdom in the seventeenth century. It just takes 30 minutes to go there from the centre of Yogyakarta city. The place used to be the palace of the king and his wives and princes. Inside the cemetery complex there is a swimming pool that was used by the princesses.

a place to visit the mataram king's graveyard. It's free for public but if you want to enter the graveyard you are required to wear javanese attire and pay donation (no limitation but be reasonable)
