Bali Museum is an ethnographic museum. They exhibit all the artifacts related to Balinese culture and present them into a very nice storyline. I visited this museum three times in 2019 because this museum is my research object and I still remember the storyline.

If you visit this museum you'll get charge a ticket (in 2019 it was 10k rupiah if I'm not mistaken) and there is a locker for you to leave your baggage. And you'll be guided to go to the first building (there are 4 permanent exhibition buildings as I remember).

The first building shows you stories and general facts about Bali and some artifacts from ancient times such as farming tools, stones, etc. The second building is more of some ritual things from birth, wedding, and funeral. The third building is an economic thing like the Chinese coins they used in the past, etc. The last building contains a keris collection and some big figures of their mythical creatures.

The museum administration was really helpful. They sell some souvenirs, snacks, and drinks in the reception area. They have an administration building, conservation building, collection building, and two (as I remember) bales. On my third visit, they held a Balinese traditional dance practice for young girls. That was so beautiful. Sadly I didn't document it.

I hope more tourists will visit this museum too, not just the beach clubs. I hope more people see Bali as a whole, their culture and history included not just the recreation things. They're historically beautiful.

An amazing museum! We got a guide to take us through the 5 small buildings and it was totally worth it. It’s a walk through time and history for sure. Highly recommend this for anyone staying in town. If you’re a scholar of religions or have an interest in Buddhism 🕉 or Hindu history of the region, this is for you!

Good place to see incredible building and Bali's traditional statue miniature. Seems quite, there no other people there when I come to see the museum.

There is entrance ticket fee to enter the museum for IDR 25k for adult.

This museum has a vast collection of cultural items, along with the historical background behind it.
Though it is located at the heart of the busy Denpasar City, this museum is very tranquil, peaceful, and quiet.
The green courtyard with beautiful traditional Balinese architecture make for a scenic pictures, even the locals are using this venue to take their pre-wedding shoot.
Definitely worth a visit!

Bali Museum or also known as Bali Provincial State Museum is located on the east side of Puputan Square Denpasar. This place has several exhibition halls Bali Museum or also known as Bali Provincial State Museum is located on the east side of Puputan Square Denpasar. This place has several exhibition halls, each showcasing different varieties of historical data from the Mesolithic Age to the modern era. You will find vast collections of displays from paintings, artefacts and statues along with inscriptions. There are also weapons used in the bronze age of Bali, some religious relics and musical instruments. The garden area is well taken care of, makes the visitors feel comfortable strolling around the museum area. The original building was built in 1910 by Dutch citizens who cared deeply on preserving the ancient Balinese precious artefacts. On its journey, the museum has ever been wrecked due to an earthquake in 1917 and rebuilt in 1920. German artist Walter Spies also has done a lot, for the sake of this museum on its early age.
The museum area consists of the temple (puri) which divided into three sections kahyangan, pura, and merajan. The display area is divided into three buildings called Tabanan, Karangasem and Buleleng. Inside those buildings we can find artwork, ethnographic items, ancient texts (inscriptions), ceramics, porcelain statues, household appliances, agricultural tools, weapons, ceremonial tools, paintings, shadow puppets and so forth. Since early 2000, the Bali government has improved the museum by integrating few more pavilions, functioned as a library, reparations rooms (for broken artefacts), and also theatre.

Great exposure to the culture of Bali. Afterall, the island has had a unique history within the archipelago. The museum showcases this special island's relationship with Java and the many "visitors" who arrived here throughout the ages.

Get an indepth view of the history of Balinese Kris, tools, clothes, and artworks.

A must visit location in Denpasar.

Worth a visit. It's away from the touristy area so you get a peek into real Denpasar.
Don't go with high expectations and you will be pleasantly surprised. There are guides (unofficial) hanging around. Recommended to take one along.

The Bali Museum in Denpasar is different from the museums in Ubud tourist attractions. In this museum, you can see art collections with historical values from Balinese culture.

The museum collection consists of ethnographic collections such as equipment used in prehistoric times, religious and traditional ceremonial equipment, the development of Balinese art and culture, from era to era. Of course, by looking at the museum's collections, you will be able to compare the forms of prehistoric and modern Balinese civilization.

The museum was very beautiful and interesting, entrance fee was 50K per person. Kindly refuse the guides, they will charge you random amounts of money in the end.

Got to know about the history of Bali and how people of Bali fought for their independence by chasing away intruders. So many sacrifices and so many gave their lives for their motherland.

Place Nr. 1 when you visit Bali to get to know a great basic understanding of balinese culture, history and religion. I was more than happy to say yes to a private tour guide who kindly welcomed me on the entrance but was not an employee of the museum. Without him I would just have seen some antique weapons and drawings of gods and demons but with him I understood the meaning behind it very well. He has no website or instagram, just his WhatsApp. If he agrees I will add it here.

It was really nice to go to this museum.
I understand the history of Bali since history. However, I had to be aware that there was a person who went around to explain the museum exhibition, but at first he said he didn't need money, he was a volunteer. However, the man told me to give me money at the end.
There are people like this, so be careful,

We did a family photoshoot while in Bali, and while we had initially opted for the standard “by-the-beach” shots, our phtographer suggested Bali Museum for something different, and we’re really glad we went there!

It was a nice morning, it had rained earlier in the morning so it wasn’t too hot, and the backdrops are really pretty for taking photos!

While we were there, there were at least 3-4 couple doing their pre-wedding Balinese photoshoot, decked out in traditional outfits! Was a great sight to see, and we had lots of fun taking (oh so many) photos!

Though that said, the museum is rather small, and while we didn’t look around, people were really there more for photo taking. If it weren’t for the photoshoot, not sure we’d go back.

Suitable for young children though as there’s some space to run around in the gardens. And it’s if there’s something different you want to get out of the busy city. Would recommend at least to dedicate one morning and it’s about a 30min drive from Seminyak.

Locals enter free, and tourists pay a very small sum to enter.
