Mithraanandapuram Vaamanamoorthy Temple

Mithranandapuram, a legacy temple hidden at first sight, situated in a corner behind perumbillissery junction, dates back a thousand of year back in its iconic history of beginning of legendary *othoott* (yajurveda thrisandha) is a temple dedicated to lord Vamana Moorthy. A location to cool off the thoughts and to meditate at the top, the pond of the temple is a beautiful sight and crystal clean. "Othoott" is known for its extrimism for intelligence quest of many veda panditas at the same time a worship to Vamana Moorthy. This is now actively performed only in two temples; Rappal Sreekrishna Puram kshethram and Mithranandapuram Vamana Moorthy kshethram. The ghee of thrisandha is best for children and pregnants. The coordination of temple belonged people is astonishing.

Bhoomi Pooja is carried out in this temple which I think is a speciality. Perhaps the only temple in the world which has a Nakshatra_vanam i.e. a garden dedicated to the lunar mansions (or constellations) for worshipping. The premise of the temple is beautiful and serene throughout.

Mithranandapuram Vamana Temple, Thrissur, Kerala

This temple is dedicated to Lord Vamana, the dwarf brahmana incarnation of Lord Vishnu who is known locally as Mithranandapurathappan. The Deity here is said to be more than 1500 years old and depicts Lord Vamana blessing King Mahabali. The age of the Deity has been calculated according to the Malayalam recital called 'Ayathu Sivalokam' which is performed in the nearby Arattupuzha temple. There is a custom of worshipping Swamiyar, a former priest of the temple who entered Samadhi in the temple first before entering the Chuttambalam i.e. the complex that surrounds the sreekovil i.e. sanctum sanctorum.

The main festival of the temple is the Sampoorna Yajurveda Yagna called locally as 'Othu Kootu'. This involves the complete recital of the Yajurveda once every three years by vedic scholars from all over the state of Kerala. The yagna is conducted by ten Namboodiri families of the locality with the cooperation of the local devotees. Thiruvonam Ootu i.e. prasadam distribution is done on the Thiruvonam nakshatra day of every month being the birth star of Lord Vamana. The temple is also referred to as Nakshatra Vriksha Kshetram as the temple complex houses 27 trees that represent the 27 nakshatras.
