INDIAN POST OFFICE saptapur

This is an histitoric building. Built around 1920 for the Maharaja of Kolhapur during his days at the Karnataka college. This now houses the postal insurance office, saptapur post office, and residance of the PMG.
This bungalow spread over 2 acers has a large drawing room, propobley used as a meeting room. Had 4 bed large bedrooms on the ground floor, 2 in the first floor. It has verrande on all the sides. The first floor has a balcony. The wash rooms of all the ground floor rooms could be accessed from outside, done in those times cleaning staff was not allowed to access the same from inside. The dinning room could sit 16 pax in the large table. The room still has the teracotta wall tiles. The bungalow had 2 kitchen. Had few servant quarters, garbage to park cars.

A large stable for horses and cattle shed. A bio gas plant too! Must visit it.
Many important diginateris visited the bungalow after it was bought by shri Sakarlal dayabhai Desai in 1946 father of shri CS Desai who got electricity to the town. He bought it for rs.25000/-He called the bungalow "mukti" the name still stays. Earlier the plot for bungalow stretched between the 2nd cross road and the 3rd. The department of post continues to maintain the same in good shape .
Some of the important visitors and residents of this bungalow are shri Rajrndra Prasad, shri radhakriahna , shri chinmayananad swami ji, shri shankarcharya ji, shri dinkar Desai minister in Bombay govt., shri hukkerikar, patil, niglingappa all ministers from karnataka. Shri kartikayain head of CBI and like.
This building must be protected and maintained as a heritage building.

Many of tbe people do not know this place, its just above the Ice Zone, stairs are beside the back gate of Ice Zone. Speed posts and all regular postal activities can be done here. But the envelopes and other major services are been done in the main branch as per my knowledge.

when you get inside the compound we get confused to find post office but the security guard will help you out
