This place has broken road which is not suitable for cars if you have a SUV kind of vehicle then give it a try. Otherwise two wheels only. Visit by group and it is far from main road.

Vedaranyam Salt Satyagraha was a march started by Indian statesman C. Rajagopalachari, inspired by the Dandi March.C. Rajagopalachari, a close associate of Gandhi, led the march which had close to 150 volunteers, most of who belonged to the Indian National Congress. It began at Trichinopoly (now Tiruchirappalli) on 13 April 1930 and proceeded for about 150 miles towards the east before reaching Vedaranyam, a small coastal town in the then Tanjore District (Madras Presidency).By collecting salt directly from the sea the marchers broke the salt law. As a part of the march, Rajagopalachari created awareness among the people by highlighting the importance of khadi or cotton as well as social issues like caste discrimination. The campaign came to an end on 28 April 1930 when the participants were arrested by the police. Its leader Rajagopalachari was imprisoned for six months. The march along with the ones at Dandi and Dharasana drew worldwide attention to the Indian independence movement.

One of the remarkable historic places, which reveals the Salt-Satyagraha, one of the important freedom fighting moments of Mahatma Gandhi ji. A memory real place of Uppu-Satyagraha lead by Rajaji.

பிரித்தானிய இந்திய அரசு இந்தியர்கள் மீது விதித்த உப்பு உற்பத்தி வரியை எதிர்த்து, மகாத்மா காந்தி தண்டியில் நடத்திய உப்புச் சத்தியாகிரகம் போன்று, தமிழ்நாட்டின் வேதாரண்யக் கடலில் உப்பு அள்ளும் போராட்டமாக 13 ஏப்ரல் 1930 அன்று வேதாரண்யம் உப்புச் சத்தியாகிரகம் நடைபெற்றது.
இராஜாஜி தலைமையில் வேதாரண்யத்தில், நடைபெற்ற உப்புச் சத்தியாகிரகப் போராட்டத்தில் ஏ. என். சிவராமன், ஜி. ராமசந்திரன், துரைசாமி, கல்கி சதாசிவம், கோயம்புத்தூர் இராஜூ, ஜி. கே. சுந்தரம், ஓ. வி. அழகேசன், ரா. வெங்கட்ராமன், மட்டப்பாறை வெங்கட்ட ராமையா முதலிய தலைவர்கள் கலந்து கொண்டனர். சர்தார் வேதரத்தினம் பிள்ளை போராட்டக் குழுவினர்களுக்கு அனைத்து வகைகளிலும் உதவினார்.[1] இப்போராட்டத்தின் விளைவாக சர்தார் வேதரத்தினம் பிள்ளை, இராஜாஜி உட்பட பலர் கைதாகி ஆறுமாத சிறைத்தண்டனை அனுபவித்தனர்.
