Gandhi park Library

I am brought up here, my house is right opposite gandhi park. Our house is one of the oldest in the locality. The library has mostly tamil books. They have lot of children books. The membership cost is a pittance. Hardly twenty rupees for the whole year for one book. The library from what it was is growing thanks to good samaritans.

Very good park with cleanliness rating above average. it has watertank and library too. the park has been renovated after vardha cyclone and still maintaining the greenish. outer walls with health tips are painted and quite good. weekends are crowded obviously on sunday evening. Aavin parlour on north west side sounds good for its milk products. east side has perin super market with cane and tender coconut shops, food streets. the park has provision(arranged by alumni's of a renowned college) to collect used clothes and eatables, as a service, and will be shared to appropriate persons in need. this has centuries old big trees like banyan,

I was since n 1990, , at library to study, also spend time to exam books in 2002, 2004 for Cswip n Bagas exams, its wonderful place, now it's improved lot with green, security, children play ground, also clean n tidy. Excellent, salute to those done this improvement n maintenance

My review is based on my experience in my early teens in the 80s!
My first ever exposure to a library of any sorts... I got a free membership when I was in the 8th standard, staying in a nearby street. I used to visit almost daily, and would finish a book a day. Initially tamil story books for kids but soon moved on to adult novels in tamil and English. This is where I got introduced to Sujatha, Arthur Hailey, Irving Wallace, and the like. In 3 years, I had made a full round of whatevet interested me in the library.

The library consisted of a room of may be 10 by 10, surrounded on all 4 sides by a 5 foot wide verandah which had tables and chairs for those reading newspapers and magazines. The room inside had a table in the center for the librarian, and the three walls had shelves full of books, arranged neatly in order of subject and author. There was a register to sign to enter the library, and a register for borrowing books.

After my 10th std, we moved to a different area and me to a different school / college, so I joined the Connemara public library, but that's another story 😄

Best park in East Tambaram. It will open in morning and evening . It has library also. For kids there are lot of things in things in this park. Tress gives strength to this place.😀
